Overview

The ProtoSigns Lab led by Dr Seán Jordan in the School of Chemical Sciences at Dublin City University is at the forefront of pioneering research in Geobiology and Astrobiology. This ERC-funded project offers a 13-month fixed-term contract for a Postdoctoral Researcher in Micropalaeontology. Our mission is to expand the experimental space for protocells, advance our understanding of the origin of life on Earth, and develop innovative biosignatures for microfossil interpretation from Earth and beyond.


Responsibilities
  • Sampling and analysis of geological samples from Archaean and Neoproterozoic deposits.
  • Techniques used include confocal microscopy, electron microscopy, FTIR microscopy, Raman microspectroscopy, gas chromatography–mass spectrometry, and pyrolysis.

Salary

IUA Postdoctoral Researcher Salary Scale – €46,305 – €46,905. Refer to DCU Payscales for the applicable payscale. Appointment will be commensurate with qualifications and experience and in line with current Government pay policy.

Remote Working Policy

DCU operates a Remote Working Policy. Employees may be approved for up to 2 days of remote working per week (or an appropriate pro‑rata amount for those part time).
