Board Member with Expertise in Disability Policy and Practice
1 week ago
Cheeverstown is looking for expressions of interest to join our board of directors. This is an exciting opportunity to expand our governing body and to ensure that the board has the skills and perspective it requires to successfully guide our strategic journey towards a community support model.
About us:
Cheeverstown Entities are:
- Cheeverstown House CLG is a Section 38 voluntary organisation that provides a wide range of services including Supported Living Services, New Directions Day Supports, Respite, Employment Supports and Clinical Services to individuals with intellectual disabilities across South Dublin and Kildare.
- Cheeverstown School CLG is the patron body of Cheeverstown School, which provides education to children with intellectual disabilities.
- Cheeverstown CLG is a charity established to hold assets currently used by other Cheeverstown entities and to make charitable donations as deemed appropriate by the Trustees. All of the above listed companies act under a license granted by the Charity.
What we're looking for:
The board is seeking a director to join the current board. We are seeking expressions of interest from a candidate who has expertise in disability policy and practice, governance, advocacy, research and/or best-practices standards in providing services to people with intellectual disabilities.
Functions of the board and duties of directors:
Cheeverstown is a charity and a company limited by guarantee. It is governed by a voluntary board of directors. Our directors receive no payment, other than reasonable out-of-pocket expenses, and serve up to a maximum of three years, with the option for the chair to extend by a further year.
Directors of the Board are both company directors and charity trustees, and should understand the legal duties of the role, as explained by the Charities Regulator. Directors are responsible for the strategic direction of the organisation and for ensuring the highest standards of governance are upheld, in accordance with the Charities Governance Code.
All members receive an induction when they join the Board and there is excellent support from the other Board members and from the management team. The existing members come from a variety of backgrounds and interests.
Time commitment:
Approximately 9 board meetings of some 2 hours each per annum with time required for preparatory reading, and additional time commitments depending on membership of sub-committees. The board engages in a full or half-day strategy or training sessions approximately once per year. Board members may be asked to represent the board at certain events, depending on their availability and interests.
All correspondence can be sent by email to Susan Wilson at swilson@cheeverstown.ie.
Your expression of interest should include a short cover email which clearly specifies why you are interested in joining the Board of Cheeverstown and some details of your background and experience.
