Overview

Senior Occupational Therapist – Adult disabilities

The Senior Occupational Therapist – Adult disabilities will provide high-quality, person-centred occupational therapy services to adults with physical, intellectual, and/or developmental disabilities within an Adult Disability Team. The post holder will work as part of a multidisciplinary team to support service users in achieving optimal independence, participation, and quality of life.

Responsibilities
  • Deliver comprehensive occupational therapy assessments for adults with complex disability needs.
  • Develop, implement, and review evidence-based individualised intervention programmes.
  • Support clients in areas including self-care, daily living skills, mobility, sensory needs, communication supports, and vocational/leisure activities.
  • Provide specialist advice and recommendations on assistive technology, seating, environmental adaptations, and housing needs.
  • Work collaboratively with families, carers, and community agencies to promote continuity of care.
  • Contribute to discharge planning and integrated care pathways.
  • Provide clinical leadership, supervision, and mentorship to junior staff, students, and therapy assistants.
  • Actively contribute to service development, quality improvement initiatives, and policy implementation.
  • Maintain accurate, up-to-date clinical records in line with professional and hospital standards.
  • Participate in multidisciplinary team (MDT) meetings, case conferences, and family meetings.
  • Engage in continuous professional development (CPD) and maintain CORU registration.
  • Prioritise and manage a caseload efficiently, using agreed referral and triage systems.
  • Contribute to waiting list management, risk assessment, and safeguarding processes.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Occupational Therapy (or equivalent qualification recognised by CORU).
  • Professional registration with CORU.
  • Minimum 3 years post-qualification clinical experience
Desirable
  • Previous experience in a hospital or multidisciplinary team setting.
  • Training in specialist areas such as sensory integration, seating and postural management, or assistive technology.
  • Experience in supervision, service development, or quality improvement initiatives.
