Objective of this post:
The principal objective of the post is to provide teaching, co-ordination and examining of RCSI's undergraduate medical teaching programmes, MSc Population Health leadership, and to support the departmental research agenda, in the area of Public Health, Epidemiology and Evidence Based Health for three years. RCSI is seeking a professional who is passionate about teaching, who would like to contribute to, and gain experience, working as an academic in a multicultural environment. The successful candidate will demonstrate energy, initiative and excellent organisation and communication skills. The post- holder, who will be based in the Department of Public Health and Epidemiology, will develop, teach and help coordinate Public Health Epidemiology (PHE) teaching and Evidence Based Health (EBH) teaching.
Specific Responsibilities include:
• Contribute to the undergraduate teaching programme in the Direct Entry and Graduate Entry Medicine Programmes through:
- delivery of lectures in areas appropriate to the needs of the EBH / PHE team
- taking on a teaching coordination role and acting as lead liaison between students and staff
- revision, delivery and marking of team projects
- setting and co-ordinating both in-module and end of module exam questions as required
• Contribute to the development of the curriculum in relation to public health emergencies and disaster management, new teaching programmes, teaching modalities and modes of assessment
• Identify areas for curriculum development and expansion in areas of increasing importance such as One Health and Planetary Health
• Contribute to the departmental research agenda as required by the Head of Department
• Liaise with and provide support to colleagues in the RCSI Schools and across the RCSI international campus in Bahrain, as required
• Undergo programmes of training and development as may be required
• Represent the best interests of the Department and RCSI at all times
• Contribute to quality assurance/quality improvement and accreditation of existing modules
• Perform such other related duties as may be required
• A PhD or equivalent in an area relevant to public health and epidemiology
• Strong teaching interest and skill set, as evidenced by experience of, a proven track record in, and enthusiasm for undergraduate teaching and assessment in public health, epidemiology or evidence based health
• Evidence of first author and co-author publications in a relevant public health field
• Some experience in writing research grant applications
• Effective communication style appropriate to audience and situation
• Excellent time-management skills in order to effectively progress across all three domains of responsibilities (teaching, research and service)
• Able to build and maintain strong working relationships – actively collaborating with colleagues
• Deadline-oriented while delivering high quality teaching and projects. The successful candidate's core values and behaviours should demonstrate:

Note: Teaching is delivered on site with some remote teaching. A presence on site in Dublin will be required to fulfil important student-centred aspects of the role.
• Masters or MSc in Public Health or Epidemiology (or equivalent)
• Strong commitment to own personal and professional development
• Strong interest and experience with blended learning delivery and digitally-enhanced teaching tools
• Proven ability for both independent and team work
• Excellent research methods knowledge and skills

Particulars of Post
This post is a full time fixed term position. The appointee will report to the Head of Department or nominee. The remuneration will be on the Lecturer Scale.
