Postdoctoral Researcher

Dublin, Dublin City, Ireland TN Ireland Full time

Post Summary

Applications are invited for a motivated and self-driven postdoctoral researcher to work on the validation and refinement of novel biomarkers of Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS). This research, undertaken at the Discipline of Physiology of the Trinity Biomedical Sciences Institute, involves using electroencephalography (EEG) to measure changes in cognitive and motor network function in ALS. Specifically, a suite of measures, previously determined to differ between those with and without ALS, will be analyzed to determine if prior findings are reproducible in a distinct cohort, in addition to refining how we collect and analyze these data.

This project will involve working with existing large datasets, optimization of data processing and statistical analysis pipelines, and writing of custom MATLAB scripts for signal analysis. Prior experience in programming and statistical analysis are therefore essential. An additional component of the project will involve the collection of a small (n=20) novel control dataset over 3 timepoints to determine longitudinal measurement stability. Therefore, experience collecting/processing neuroimaging and/or electrophysiology data is also highly desirable.

The researcher will work as part of a young, multidisciplinary team led by Dr. McMackin, in collaboration with the Academic Unit of Neurology of Trinity College Dublin and University Medical Centre Utrecht. Funding is available to support regular presentation of findings at international conferences. Teaching opportunities can also be offered if of interest to the successful candidate. The position will start at the earliest date suitable for the successful candidate, not later than July 2025.
