- Responsible for developing and maintaining tooling specifications to meet specific component and project strategies.
- Act as an injection moulding tooling technical lead liaison for both internal project teams and client teams and manage new injection mould tool introduction to the Operations team . During new product introduction (NPI), maintain constant monitoring and communication of tooling schedule status to ensure project technical quality, reliability, schedule and costs are adhered to. This is communicated through status tooling reports and cross-functional project communication meetings.
- When tooling challenges arise the role is expected, with support from tooling and product engineering colleagues, to develop solutions that maintain expectations for productivity, quality, and timeline and meet client project objectives.
- Continuous improvement of the tooling templates and mechanisms for monitoring tooling progress and communication of status to the project, operations and GBU teams is required to ensure implementation of world class injection mould tools.
- Communication and presentation skills are considered a key factor within the role.
- Development and implementation of multi-cavity Tooling strategies for complex and/or large tooling builds with optimal cavitation and cycle times to meet the needs of a robust manufacturing process and quality requirements.
- Participates and may lead product development or project meetings and makes various recommendations for product design changes. Including performance and presentation of the Dfm/Dfa recommendations.
- Participation and or development of measurement inspection techniques, fixtures and test methods.
- Develop and delivers tooling proposals/costings including: Tooling build, metrology, qualification and maintenance costs.
- Development of required R&D documentation, e.g. Engineering Studies & Feasibility Reports, with focus on detail and quality for tooling requirements.
- Definition of Tooling Product Requirements & Product Specifications.
- Tooling design verification / tooling validation plans, protocols and reports.
- Manage mold flow requirements and translate data into final conclusions for use in tooling considerations.
- Participation in Risk Assessment / Analysis (PHA, FTA, dFMEA, uFMEA).
- Apply a project management approach involving key stakeholders with the ability to communicate in a structured manner both internally and externally.
- Provide technical support to key vendors / sub contract manufacturers.
- Constantly seeks to improve work processes; Has a quality-first mentality; Learns from internal and external best practices to apply to her/his work.

- Mechanical Engineering Degree recognized Tooling Apprenticeship or experience in similar Tool Engineer role.
- Excellent knowledge of multi cavity injection mould tools and hot runner systems.
- Minimum 5 years tooling development experience, preferably in medical devices.
- Strong tooling and product design skills, with a working knowledge of 2D/3D CAD, preferably in Pro Engineer.
- Knowledge of resin materials and processing techniques for tool building and polymers processing.
- Experience in rapid prototyping techniques and their application.
- Strong knowledge of tool approval process, metrology development for qualification and document control techniques.
- Effective written skills for technical writing and presentations.
- Strong verbal communication skills with an ability to successfully interact in cross functional teams.
- Knowledge of medical device quality & regulatory systems and medical device directive (EN ISO13485, MDD, and FDA CFR 820).
