Camphill Communities of Ireland (CCoI) are recruiting for a Social Care Worker.

Purpose of Post

The position requires a high degree of understanding and commitment to the residents and to Camphill Communities of Ireland. The prime consideration at all times must be for the welfare and wellbeing of the residents. This position requires a high degree of professionalism. Confidentiality with regard to residents and staff is most important.

The Social Care Worker must have the ability to work with people with an intellectual disability and must believe that the person has the right to live and participate in the community equally with other people. The Social Care Worker, in co-operation with the Shift Lead and the Person In Charge, will be responsible for the overall growth and direction of the residents, working within the ethos of CCoI.

The person appointed must be highly responsible and reliable, be competent in household management and have the ability to create and maintain a homely and supportive environment. The position requires maturity enabling the person to resolve conflict and can understand and empower people with sometimes quite divergent points of view.

The person appointed should be flexible in their approach to service provision and should have the ability to lead and work as a member of a team. They will be required to take an active part in ensuring that the day-to-day operations of the Service reflect the ethos and vision of CCoI and that all staff are meeting the needs of the individuals supported by the Service. They will be required, whilst setting a personal example by attitude, conduct, practice and leadership style to carry out the duties of the post outlined hereafter.

Responsibilities

The Social Care Worker shall be responsible for the following:

  • Advocacy & Rights: Respect each person who uses the services as an equal citizen; uphold and respect their human, legal and constitutional rights; recognise individuality and equality; empower personal autonomy; develop choice and decision-making skills; support self-advocacy and participation in advocacy; enable individuals to pursue hobbies and interests; foster self-help and social skills; promote community integration through generic facilities.
  • Person Centred Support for Living: Ensure a person-centred approach to service delivery; support individuals in person-centred plans with aspects of individual and group responses (occupation and leisure, communication, behaviour support plans, independent living skills, social integration, personal care, personal development); act as Key Worker for specific individuals.
  • Plan Development & Coordination: In consultation with the individual, lead in developing and implementing person-centred plans; coordinate medical appointments and ensure healthy, individual-based diets; develop and implement appropriate training, leisure, social and personal activities; facilitate participation in the community; ensure adherence to behaviour support plans as directed by the Multidisciplinary Team.
  • Daily Living & Household Support: Support personal hygiene and appearance; physical support (moving and handling, fire safety, cleaning, laundry, infection control, mobility, communication needs); assist with dressing, bathing, toileting, eating, sleep support, skin care, first aid, health promotion; support household operations and maintain household standards; manage transport duties and driving requirements; supervise clothing and linen care; manage day-to-day house running with the Shift Lead and PIC.
  • Social & Community Engagement: Facilitate participation in recreational and leisure activities; liaise with workshops to manage house-to-work transitions; participate in social and recreational activities with Day Services Coordinator; promote residents' involvement in local communities.
  • Finance & Budgets: Encourage prudent personal money management; assist with petty cash and house finances; ensure records are accurate and balanced; assist with budget preparation and monitoring; manage house accounts and monthly submissions to the services office.
  • Leadership & Compliance: Ensure compliance with legislative, CCoI policies, Health & Safety and HIQA standards; maintain up-to-date records; ensure reports, timesheets and financial statements are accurate and timely; coordinate staff and volunteers; monitor attendance of students as required; ensure team coverage and induction/training.

Other duties include supporting residents' religious and pastoral needs, medication administration and record keeping, maintaining safety and quality of living environments, and ensuring the overall physical and emotional wellbeing of individuals who use the services.

Management and Leadership
  • Ensure adherence to policies, procedures and codes of practice; monitor and audit the designated centre; maintain accurate person-centred records; ensure timely reporting of concerns to the PIC; coordinate the house team and transport services; oversee transport needs; participate in team development and continuous improvement.
Money and Budgets
  • Account for petty cash and individuals' personal monies; maintain a petty cash float with proper records; ensure prudent use of goods and services; assist with budget preparation and monitoring; manage house accounts and month-end submissions.
Qualifications, Knowledge & Experience

Applicants must:

  • Hold a minimum of Level 7 on the QQI Framework – BA in Social Care Studies or an equivalent qualification in Health or Social Care.
  • Be CORU registered or provide proof that the application is in progress.
  • Have at least 1 year of experience working with vulnerable adults or adults with intellectual disabilities.
  • Have an understanding of current policy and developments at national and sectoral levels in relation to social care within disability services.
  • Be able to follow, evaluate and contribute to plans and methods to meet ongoing needs of individuals supported.
  • Demonstrate effective interpersonal and communication skills (verbal and written).
  • Have proficient IT skills relevant to the role (Microsoft Office: Excel, Word, SharePoint, OneDrive, Teams).
  • Hold a full driving licence and have access to own car.
