Senior Level Diesel Technician – Elkton, Maryland

Overview

Immediately hiring a Permanent Full Time Senior Level Diesel Technician to support our truck fleet at Ryder in Elkton, Maryland.

Responsibilities
  • Perform vehicle maintenance and repair duties including standard maintenance and preventive maintenance
  • Diagnose complex mechanical and electronic problems using diagnostic tools and maintain detailed inspections and repairs with minimal supervision
  • Replace defective components as instructed and work unsupervised on most tasks
  • Provide facility maintenance support and interact with customers/drivers to understand the nature of the issue
  • Utilize Shop Management System and electronic documentation; comply with all safety, DOT, MOT guidelines
  • Mentor Tech 1 and Tech 2 levels; access and use maintenance documents
  • Additional duties to support operations (e.g., Service Island support)
  • Complete OEM online diagnostic tool coursework as required by location fleet mix
Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred
  • Vocational/technical certification or post-secondary degree preferred
  • Basic tools required; 2+ years of experience with mechanical repairs and diagnostics on heavy/medium duty equipment (preferred)
  • Valid Commercial Driver License (CDL) CLASS A preferred; ability to obtain CDL within 6 months after hire
  • Knowledge of computer skills: PC, Windows, mouse, etc.
  • Must pass Ryder drug test, DOT physical, road test, and background/ motor vehicle checks
  • All other certifications as required by location; ability to drive Ryder vehicles
Requirements and Conditions
  • Must be able to obtain CDL within 6 months after hire
  • Pass a Ryder Drug Test, a DOT physical, a Ryder road test, and a Ryder background and motor vehicle check for the last 3 years
  • Must have 2+ years of experience with mechanical repairs and diagnostics on heavy/medium duty equipment
  • Willing to work second shift (3:00 pm – 11:30 pm) with weekends off
Benefits and Compensation
  • Hourly pay: $30.00 per hour; Max pay $30.00 per hour
  • Certification bonus of $100 for each new ASE certification obtained up to $700
  • Quarterly bonus: up to $500 per quarter
  • Annual merit pay increases; on-the-job paid training
