Role Overview

We are seeking an experienced Wintel Server Engineer / Administrator to join our IT Infrastructure team. The successful candidate will be responsible for maintaining secure, stable, and high-performing Windows Server environments (on-premises and hybrid Azure), providing technical support, and contributing to infrastructure modernisation projects.

Responsibilities
  • Stable and Secure Infrastructure Operations – Ensure availability, integrity, and performance of Windows Server environments (on-prem and Azure hybrid). Apply system patches, monitoring, and compliance with IT security and administration policies.
  • Active Directory & Identity Services – Manage and maintain AD structures, Group Policies, user accounts, and access controls.
  • Exchange Online & Microsoft 365 Support – Administer user mailboxes, distribution lists, shared mailboxes, and mail flow. Monitor and resolve issues with delivery, retention policies, and anti-spam. Manage Azure VMs, identity & access (IAM), networking, and resource governance.
  • Security & SSL Management – Maintain SSL certificate inventory, ensuring renewals and secure configuration. Implement server/cloud-based cybersecurity controls and vulnerability remediation. Support and optimise VMware vSphere or Hyper-V environments, including resource allocation and monitoring.
  • Desktop Deployment & Device Setup – Build and maintain desktop/laptop images using ManageEngine or Intune Autopilot.
  • User Support via Service Desk – Respond to escalated service desk incidents and requests, delivering high-quality technical support.
  • Backup & Disaster Recovery – Ensure systems are backed up, tested, and recovery procedures are documented.
  • Documentation & Reporting – Maintain accurate system records, operational procedures, and change logs. Provide regular updates to the IT Manager or project lead.
  • Infrastructure Projects – Support digital transformation and infrastructure modernisation initiatives.
Required Skills & Experience
  • Minimum 5 years' experience supporting and administering Microsoft infrastructure in enterprise environments.
  • Strong expertise in SSL management and cloud backup solutions
  • Cybersecurity best practices
  • Ability to troubleshoot complex infrastructure issues.
  • Excellent communication skills with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Strong documentation and attention to detail.
  • PowerShell scripting for automation.
  • Familiarity with ITIL processes.
  • Experience in public sector or regulated environments.
