Dublin, Dublin City, Ireland Amazon Web Services (AWS) Full time

Join to apply for the T&D Power Systems Studies Eng, HVDE Design Engineering EMEA role at Amazon Web Services (AWS)

We are seeking an experienced Power Systems Engineer to play a critical role in designing and modeling electrical transmission and distribution infrastructure. In this position, you will be responsible for conducting technical analyses, modeling power system performance, and providing recommendations to optimize the reliability, efficiency, and safety of our power systems.

As a Power Systems Specialist, you will focus on assessing the medium to long-term impact of load profiles on our network. The primary objective is to identify solutions and technologies which can be utilized to address any power system challenges.

You will be involved from the early planning (pre-design) stages to develop, review, improve, and approve power architecture typologies. You will also lead the development of protection coordination studies during the execution phases.

If you have the passion, necessary skills, and experience to excel or grow as a Power Systems Specialist, or if you want to learn more about the role, we encourage you to apply.

Key job responsibilities
  1. Perform, review, and approve power system studies, including load flow analysis, short-circuit analysis, and transient stability analysis, using advanced software tools.
  2. Develop and maintain accurate models of the electrical transmission and distribution network, incorporating the latest system changes and upgrades.
  3. Run and analyze multiple "what-if" scenarios (e.g., N-1 contingencies, different generation dispatch, varying reactive power outputs).
  4. Analyze system performance data to identify potential issues and bottlenecks, proposing solutions to improve system reliability and capacity.
  5. Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including substation design, operations, and planning, to ensure seamless integration of power system enhancements and compliance.
  6. Communicate effectively with internal and external customers by preparing detailed reports or presentations describing analyses performed, solutions developed, and value propositions.
  7. Support project teams to ensure high-quality deliverables, budget adherence, and on-time completion.
  8. Oversee third-party vendors to ensure quality of power system studies.
  9. Stay up-to-date with industry trends, emerging technologies, and regulatory changes.
  10. Provide technical guidance, training, and knowledge sharing to team members.
  11. Participate in the development of technical standards, policies, and procedures for the organization.
A day in the life

This role embodies Amazon's Day 1 culture, focusing on customer-centric design from concept to construction, including defining specifications, approving technical submittals, and supporting construction through commissioning and turnover. You will be recognized as a subject matter expert, with opportunities for continued learning and development.

About The Team

The Power Engineering Team is responsible for designing medium and high-voltage substations for Amazon's data centers across EMEA. We work closely with stakeholders to meet technical requirements, develop strategies, produce technical documentation, and specify critical equipment.

About AWS Infrastructure Services
