About Us

We are a leading integrated photonics company located at the DCU Alpha Innovation Campus in Glasnevin. Our mission is to push the boundaries of optical technology for use in high-performance telecoms, data centers, and mobile communications.

As we continue to expand, we are looking for an enthusiastic Hardware Design Engineer to support our system integration team. This is an ideal opportunity for someone early in their career with a passion for hardware design and experimentation, and turning technologies into products.

Key Responsibilities

Hardware Design & Prototyping:

• Assist with the design and layout of PCBs for optical and RF systems.
• Support rapid prototyping of electronic and mechanical systems.
• Contribute to the design of mechanical enclosures and parts using 3D CAD software.
• Assembling prototypes and bringing up opto-electronic systems
• Perform functional tests, basic instrumentation measurements, and debug hardware issues.

Documentation & Support:

• Maintain records of designs, test results, and modifications.
• Support the R&D team in preparing files for manufacturing and documentation for regulatory or IP purposes.
• Work closely with optical, mechanical, and software engineers.
• Engage with external suppliers and partners on component sourcing and technical queries.

Requirements

• Experience with schematic capture and PCB layout tools (e.g. Altium).
• Familiarity with 3D mechanical design tools (e.g., SolidWorks).
• Familiarity with Python, C, for automation and data analysis.
• Deep knowledge of electronics and test equipment (analog and digital).
• A practical, problem-solving mindset — someone who enjoys figuring things out.
• Good communication skills, and a willingness to learn and work as part of a team.
• Practical experience in PCB assembly and soldering of surface-mount components.
• Good hand-eye coordination.
• Self-motivated, independent, analytical, and creative outside-of-the-box and can-do attitude
• Comfortable in a fast-moving start up environment, ability to work under pressure, multi-task and adapt to changing priorities, and to work with remote team members and academic and industrial partners.
• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electronics, Mechatronics, or a related discipline, or equivalent hands-on experience.

Bonus Skills (not required but nice to have):

• Experience with embedded systems.
• 3D printing and slicing software (e.g., Cura, PrusaSlicer, Bambu Studio).
• Experience working with optical or photonics equipment.
