Engineer III, Quality Engineering – Rent The Runway

Location: Galway, Ireland (hybrid: 2-3 days/week in Galway office). This role is part of the Quality Engineering team responsible for leading test automation efforts, improving build, deployment, and test workflows, and increasing confidence in systems through automated testing.

Rent the Runway disrupts the fashion industry by enabling customers to subscribe, rent items, and shop resale. The Galway office supports a growing European technology hub, tackling core technology challenges and expanding software engineering, product development, machine learning engineering, and data science footprint.

Rent the Runway is seeking an Engineer III to lead and guide multiple test automation efforts, improve build, deployment, and test workflows, and increase confidence in our systems to mitigate risk through automation. The ideal candidate will understand and apply software testing methodologies, automation and SDLC best practices to support further efficiencies in our engineering teams. You will have experience working with teams of engineers as an Automation Engineer and leading automation initiatives; you are detail-oriented and want to apply your technical skills to build automated test systems and deployment pipelines. • Design, develop, and execute automation scripts using open source tools (Jest, , and XCUI), debugging and defining corrective actions for a complex microservices system.
• Translate business requirements into detailed, comprehensive test plans and test cases. Estimate, prioritize, plan, and coordinate quality testing activities.
• Decompose the system to test services and existing functionality in isolation and perform end-to-end tests.
• Develop and improve test automation frameworks by leveraging cloud infrastructure and implementing CI/CD pipelines.
• Improve deployment approval processes to allow automated testing and deployments to testing, pre-production, and production environments.
• Partner with Engineering teams to review quality specifications and technical design documents for risk assessment and feedback.
• Ensure detailed reporting to assess product quality and track QA metrics (e.g., defect densities and open defect counts).

• Multi-stack engineer with 4+ years experience in development technologies and test automation frameworks, with focus on Modern JavaScript (React, Jest, , TypeScript); knowledge of Java and related test frameworks a plus.
• Experience with App Test Automation (XCUI) is a plus.
• Experience with RESTful APIs and asynchronous messaging (AMQP, RabbitMQ) in a microservices environment.
• Experience with non-functional and load-testing frameworks (Gatling, JMeter, K6, BrowserStack Turboscale).
• Experience creating and maintaining CI/CD pipelines, preferably GitHub Actions, and integrating automated tests into pipelines.
• Solid understanding of cloud and containerization (Docker, Kubernetes, Google Cloud Platform).
• Strong analytical skills with experience in logging (Splunk, Loggly) and monitoring/APM tools (SignalFX, New Relic, Datadog).
