General Maintenance Operative, Housing, South West

Location: Cork and Kerry

Contract: Full Time,Permanent Contract

This role provides general maintenance support as part of a small team, focusing on planned, preventative, and reactive maintenance of housing stock across Cork and Kerry. Key tasks include basic electrical checks, plastering, carpentry, meter readings, and property clear-outs. The role does not involve electrical or extensive plumbing work, but issues should be reported to the relevant tradesperson. A full driving licence and access to own transport are required; mileage is reimbursed.

What you will do:

  • To work within the framework of the overall aims and objectives of Focus Ireland.
  • To complete multi-disciplined types of maintenance both inside and outside our properties such as, basic electrical checks, plumbing, plastering, carpentry, upkeep of grounds, meter readings, lock changes, clear out of properties and painting.
  • To comply with the maintaining and delivery of maintenance schedules.
  • In addition to carrying out maintenance tasks directly, to also oversee all maintenance activities carried out by other external contractors.
  • To work effectively as a member of a small team.
  • To exercise a good level of initiative and independence on site in order to resolve issues in the successful completion of tasks. Also to ensure that works are carried out in a manner that is safe to yourself and others
  • To undertake other such duties as might be reasonably assigned from time to time in consultation with the Team Leader.
  • To draw up and oversee the implementation of daily, weekly and monthly maintenance schedules/ fire checks for Communal Areas.
  • Have access to their own vehicle for the purposes of carrying out scheduled repairs and maintenance as and when required.
  • To ensure all hand and power tools used by the maintenance team comply with all relevant Health and Safety regulations and are stored in a safe and tidy manner.
  • To engage in supervision sessions on a regular basis with the Team Leader.
  • To participate in relevant training and development courses as agreed with your Team Leader.
  • To be vigilant to any Health, Safety and Welfare risks in the workplace and bring any concerns to the attention of your line manager or Health & Safety Representative.

  • Willing and able to travel within the Cork City, Cork County and Kerry.
  • On-site safety awareness and a knowledge of relevant current legislation along with the Associations Health and Safety Policy
  • Proven relevant experience of carrying out maintenance within the social housing or private residential sector (Desirable)
