Android Engineer (Mid-Level) – Limerick, Ireland (Hybrid)
Join the Transact Mobile Ordering team as an Android Engineer. Contribute to a best-in-class mobile ordering solution used by millions of students across university campuses. The platform is mobile-first, fully branded for each institution, and supports features such as food ordering, secure locker integrations for pickup, delivery options, dining hall reservations, dietary filtering, and nutrition tracking. The platform also includes a campus-wide loyalty and rewards system with push notifications, automated marketing campaigns, upselling, targeted inbox announcements, surveys, and user feedback collection.
Transact Campus and CBORD have joined forces to bring integrated technology solutions to education, healthcare, and business campuses worldwide. This role requires strong collaboration, ownership of work, and a growth mindset to adapt to evolving priorities.
Key Responsibilities- Design, develop, test, and maintain the application using Kotlin and Java.
- Collaborate with product managers, designers, and backend engineers to build and ship features end-to-end.
- Participate in code reviews, contribute to team best practices, and help maintain code quality and performance.
- Work with modern Android tooling and libraries (Jetpack, Hilt, Retrofit, Coroutines, etc.).
- Ensure the application meets performance, quality, and responsiveness standards.
- Monitor app performance and usage metrics to identify and resolve issues.
- Contribute to improving development processes, CI/CD pipelines, and tooling.
- Stay current with the latest Android development trends, tools, and technologies.
- 3–5 years of professional experience in Android development.
- Degree in Computer Science or equivalent.
- Strong knowledge of Kotlin and familiarity with Java.
- Solid understanding of Android SDK, architecture components, and modern development paradigms (MVVM, etc.).
- Experience with RESTful APIs, JSON, and third-party libraries (e.g., Retrofit, OkHttp).
- Familiarity with version control systems (Git) and code platforms (GitHub, GitLab).
- Experience with unit testing and UI testing frameworks (JUnit, Espresso).
- Understanding of the full mobile development life cycle, including deployment and app store submission.
- Experience with dependency injection (Hilt, Dagger) and reactive programming (Coroutines, Flow).
- Knowledge of clean architecture principles.
- Ability to interpret technical requirements and translate them into actionable tasks.
- Excellent English communication skills (written and verbal).
- Experience with Jetpack Compose.
- Experience maintaining and improving legacy codebases with modernization refactoring.
- Familiarity with CI/CD tools (e.g., GitHub Actions).
- Experience working in an Agile/Scrum environment.
- Exposure to analytics (e.g., Firebase) and mobile performance monitoring.
- Familiarity with WCAG accessibility guidelines and best practices.
