Speech and Language Therapist

The Speech and Language Therapist will deliver high-quality, child- and family-centred speech and language therapy services as part of an interdisciplinary team within a Children's Disability Network Team (CDNT), in line with the Progressing Disability Services for Children and Young People (PDS) programme. The role involves working with children and young people (0–18 years) with complex needs arising from a disability, in partnership with families and other professionals.

Responsibilities of Speech and Language Therapist

  • Provide assessment, diagnosis, and intervention for children and young people with complex speech, language, communication, and feeding/swallowing needs.
  • Work as part of an interdisciplinary team (IDT) including OT, PT, Psychology, Social Work, and Nursing to develop and implement individualised Family-Centred Service Plans (FCSP).
  • Support and empower families and caregivers to implement therapy strategies in daily life, through coaching and collaborative goal-setting.
  • Deliver services across a variety of settings including clinic, home, school, and community environments as appropriate.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date clinical records and reports in line with HSE and professional standards.
  • Participate in service development, audits, and quality improvement activities.
  • Contribute to the planning and delivery of group programmes and training workshops.
  • Engage in regular supervision and Continuing Professional Development (CPD) activities.
  • Ensure practice reflects best evidence and complies with relevant legislation and professional standards.

Requirements of Speech and Language Therapist

  • A recognised qualification in Speech and Language Therapy approved by CORU.
  • Registration withCORU– Speech and Language Therapists Registration Board.
  • Experience of working with children with complex disabilities would be desirable
  • Experience in interdisciplinary team working and family-centred practice.
