Downstream Process Development Scientist – Biologics

Join a high-performing, collaborative Biologics team delivering world-class downstream process development. We work with global biopharma partners to accelerate the development of life-changing medicines-from novel vaccines to cell & gene therapies and monoclonal antibodies.

This role is centered on the design, development, and optimisation of downstream processing for next-generation biologics, enabling tech transfer and scalable solutions that make a real impact on patients' lives.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and support downstream process development activities for biologics, with a strong focus on:
  • Tangential Flow Filtration (TFF)
  • Depth Filtration
  • Design and execute experiments to optimize purification strategies for a variety of therapeutic modalities (mAbs, vaccines, gene therapies, etc.)
  • Support tech transfer, scale-up, and process characterization activities
  • Collaborate with upstream, analytical, and engineering teams to ensure seamless, integrated process development
  • Prepare and contribute to development reports, technical presentations, and regulatory documentation
  • Engage with client stakeholders to communicate technical progress, data, and decision-making
  • Contribute to lab maintenance and continuous improvement initiatives

Minimum Qualifications

  • PhD with 3–4+ years of relevant industry experience; or
  • Master's degree with 5–6+ years; or
  • Bachelor's degree with 7+ years in downstream bioprocess development
  • Proven expertise in chromatography and filtration unit operations
  • Familiarity with tech transfer and process scale-up in biologics manufacturing
  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work independently and in cross-functional teams
  • Solid understanding of regulatory and quality expectations for DSP development
  • Strong technical writing and scientific communication skills

Preferred Skills

  • Hands-on experience with AKTA chromatography systems
  • Experience working on advanced modalities such as gene therapy, viral vectors, or vaccines
  • Familiarity with DOE (Design of Experiments) and data analysis tools (e.g., JMP, Minitab)
