Ireland's largest circulation local newspaper, The Galway Advertiser, wishes to recruit a Financial Controller

This role provides an ideal opportunity to head up the finance function for Ireland's most popular local newspaper.

Reporting directly to the MD, this is a broad commercial role involving accounting, finance, IT and contributing to the growth of the wider business, particularly the development of our online offering.

Key aspects:

  1. Financial Control - Managing a small finance team, P&L reporting, BS and working capital management, budgeting and forecasting.
  2. As a key support to the MD, providing commercial decision support, operational support and contributing towards the growth and development of the business.
  3. Cost control.
  4. Debtor management.
  5. Payroll processing and PAYE returns for approx. 40 employees.
  6. VAT reporting and filing returns.
  7. Financial Audit – preparation for the annual financial audit.
  8. Maintain relationships with a number of third parties, including financial institutions, software and hardware providers and company pension providers.
  9. Human resources - maintaining and updating company contracts, records and policies.

The ideal candidate will have the following experience and qualifications:

  1. Qualified Accountant with experience at senior finance level.
  2. Experience of providing commercial finance support within a company.
  3. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
