This position will be based in our Dublin office with a hybrid schedule that has the option of working two days remotely each week.

Job Detail:

Everest Insurance (Ireland) are excited to offer this opportunity for a Junior Casualty Liability Underwriter to join our fully empowered team with 50 years plus underwriting knowledge and expertise. This is a great opportunity to gain more experience and authority in a hands-on underwriting position. As we look to execute on an exciting growth trajectory across International markets, with Ireland playing an important part, this is a key role within the Ireland Casualty underwriting team as we continue to underwrite opportunity and offer market leading responsiveness and a solution focused mindset to our clients and broking partners.

Core Responsibilities:

  • Support the ambitious expansion of the Ireland Casualty account in line with business plans and underwriting strategy, whilst maintaining a focus on bottom line underwriting profit.
  • Develop a sound understanding of the underwriting strategy for areas of responsibility.
  • Actively participate in execution of the marketing plan, including maintenance of existing broker & customer relationships and developing new relationships, where this is consistent with the objectives set in the Business Plan.
  • Actively invest and be able to demonstrate an expansion of underwriting and product knowledge, through dedicated training (internal and external) and working with other underwriters on specific accounts.
  • Developing the skills required to manage a portfolio of renewal business, including underwriting & pricing, claims, referral, processing, broker, and client relationship aspects; and servicing any new business request in the same way.
  • Represent Everest at meetings both in the office and during visits to brokers, Cover holders and other customers as required.
  • Support the Senior Irish Casualty Underwriter as required on specific accounts, schemes and binders.
  • Data entry to support / maintain MI.
  • Refer as appropriate risks exceeding delegated underwriting authority and underwrite in compliance with Everest prescribed underwriting standards.
  • Monitor all relevant portfolio KPIs for own account and support the Senior Irish Casualty Underwriter across the broader portfolio.
  • Liaise with the Claims Manager on claims related issues.
  • Participate in the underwriting peer review process at the weekly and monthly underwriting meetings, as required.
  • Monitor and keep abreast of changes in underwriting, regulation, and compliance.
  • Assist in the improvement of rating models, underwriting manuals, service standards, marketing materials, and website as required.
  • Business travel as required to support the above objectives, and the appropriate management of expenses.
Skills & Competencies:
  • Good technical knowledge of Casualty (or other lines of business) from an underwriting or broking background, ideally with experience of working on Employers Liability, Public and Products Liability both from a Primary and Excess of Loss basis.
  • Strategic skills - show an ability to determine opportunities and threats through comprehensive analysis of current and future trends that may impact our business.
  • Judgment and decision-making skills - show ability to use logic rationality and objectivity in decision making.
  • Risk taking - show the ability to develop a sound underwriting view to take calculated risks with favorable outcomes.
  • Market and product knowledge - ability to maintain and develop market knowledge including competitor profiles and products.
  • Relationship management - developing ability to establish and maintain sound relationships both internally and externally.
  • Compliance - ability to understand and ensure compliance with all internal and external management and regulatory controls, with appropriate support.
  • Progression towards ACII qualification, or desire to complete.
