Job Description:

Semper Valens Solutions is looking for a Network Engineer. The opportunity relates to prototyping integration facility (PIF) at Aberdeen Proving Ground MD.

Duties:

  • Plans, designs, and evaluates new and existing computer network systems and services, including local area networks, wide area networks, intranets, and the Internet, providing analytical, technical, and administrative support.
  • Plans, oversees, develops, and implements network policies and procedures and ensures network integrity as maintenance and modification projects to existing applications are undertaken.
  • Troubleshoots network issues. Installs and upgrades network equipment and software.
  • Creates and maintains documentation relating to network configuration, network mapping, processes, and service records.
  • Establishes and documents network technical support processes and procedures.
  • Practices network asset management, including maintenance of network component inventory and related documentation and technical specifications.
  • Establishes voice and network standards regarding new technologies and applications.
  • Monitors and tests network performance and provides network performance statistics and reports.
  • Acts as technical liaison between clients, customers, and vendors resolve issues as needed.
  • Plans, supports and evaluates complex existing network systems and makes recommendations for resources required to maintain and/or expand service levels.
  • Provides technical assistance in network planning, engineering, and architecture.
  • Provides and develops technical standards and interface applications; identifies and evaluates new products; provides solutions for network problems.
  • Interfaces with internal/external customers and vendors to determine system needs.
  • Plans and incorporates how new network resources and applications will exist on the network.
  • Provides monthly metrics for network availability and bandwidth usage as well as other metrics as requested.
  • Responsible for network capacity planning.
  • Uses network management tools to discover, map and maintain the network.
  • Responsible for network equipment OS and version upgrades.
  • Conducts research of new technologies and implementation strategies.
  • Monitors and maintains network interfaces to ensure its highest level of performance and makes modifications and enhancements as needed.
  • Responsible for documenting procedures and keeping network diagrams and related material up to date.
  • Handles escalated user problems, questions, and requests on network issues.
  • Works with other groups to resolve network related issues.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Required Skills & Experience:

  • Detail-oriented with excellent technical, verbal, and written communication skills.
  • Direct experience in the design, development, integration, and analysis of hardware projects.
  • Proficiency with hardware test protocols, virtual software applications such as VMWARE and common operating systems such as UNIX/RedHat Linux and Windows.
  • Requires strong communication skills both verbal and written, skilled mechanical engineering, electronics engineering for Space, Weight, Environmental and Power or Electromagnetic Interference or Compatibility.
  • Experience in developing policy on protection of program technologies.
  • Drafted and had approved Security Classification Guides.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Systems, Business or related scientific/technical discipline.
  • 1-10+ years' experience.
  • 8 years of additional relevant experience may be substituted for education.

Travel:

Less than 30% travel is expected for this position. Travel may include continental United States and outside continental United States locations.
