Full-Time Large Animal Veterinary Surgeon Westport & Castlebar, Co. Mayo

A friendly, progressive mixed practice in the scenic Westport and Castlebar area is seeking a full-time Large Animal Vet to join their dedicated team. This is a fantastic opportunity for a vet with a passion for farm animal work to become an integral part of a supportive and close-knit clinic.

About the Role:

• The role is focused solely on large animal work, with a 50/50 split between TB testing and on-farm calls.
• Clinical hours are 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM, with flexibility offered. The workload is seasonalquieter in summer, busier in spring.
• The rota includes a 1-in-3 on-call schedule (one night and one weekend in three).
• The practice is based between two offices in Westport and Castlebar and currently consists of two LA vets and one SA vet.

Ideal Candidate:

• Preferably has some experience in large animal practice and is confident managing routine calls independently.
• Support is available from both senior vets for more complex cases, particularly in the early stages.

Salary & Benefits:

• Starting salary 40,00045,000, depending on experience (negotiable).
• 25 days of annual leave, plus a half-day of leave granted for each weekend worked on call.
• VCI membership and CPD (CVE) courses typically covered.
• Monthly fuel allowance provided.
• Additional benefits are negotiable directly after an interview.

This role would suit someone who enjoys autonomy in their work but values the support of an experienced and easygoing team. The practice has a strong focus on farm animals (roughly 80% LA / 20% SA), and theyre now looking to grow their large animal team.
