What You Will Achieve

Position Summary:

The Mechanical Apprenticeship is a system of employment focused training and education which enables a person to obtain the Skills, Knowledge and Competence required to perform effectively as a craft person within industry. The apprenticeship program consists of an On-the-Job and Off-the-Job Training program. This training is carried out using 7 phases alternating between On-the-Job and Off-the-Job Training and Education.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Complying with Health and Safety requirements
  2. Working and learning from experienced craft persons
  3. Working with electricity electronics, Pneumatics, and Scada/ mechanical systems
  4. Understanding and using physics
  5. Using mathematics to solve technical or scientific problems
  6. Being responsible for controlling or adjusting equipment
  7. Working on machines/processes
  8. Understanding technical drawings and diagrams
  9. Accuracy and attention to detail
  10. Being accurate with numbers in counting, measuring and arithmetic
  11. Working with a variety of specialised hand tools, power tools, measure and test equipment
  12. Keeping accurate records of all calibrations or reports
  13. Being well organised and careful with practical tasks
  14. Taking responsibility for their own learning, including the allocation of study time
  15. Passing all their phase exams (theory, practical skills demonstrations.)

Phase 7: Minimum 12 weeks With Employer

Work Based Training and Assessments

The work-based training and assessments are carried out by the apprentice and signed off by their assessor (who is a fully qualified craftsperson) when all tasks are complete.

The overall duration of this apprenticeship is a minimum of 4 years provided all phases are successfully completed. On successful completion of the programme the learner is awarded a Level 6 Advanced Certificate Craft – Electrical Instrumentation.

  1. Minimum of Leaving Certificate Qualification or Leaving Certificate Results Pending for year of application.
