Job Description:Building a sustainable tomorrow

We are seeking highly skilled Environmental Sustainability Managers to join our team and help us deliver a sustainable future.

As an Environmental Sustainability Manager, you will report to a Senior Environmental Sustainability Manager (SESM). Your primary goal is to accelerate BAM's transition to a more sustainable business. You will coordinate regional activities, implement our sustainability strategy, and drive internal continuous improvement. You will support project teams, work-winning, upskilling, and BAM's progress towards its sustainability targets while overseeing the execution of environmental compliance to ISO 14001. You may also serve as a resource for specialist environmental sustainability advice and have a matrix relationship within the operational business.

Please note that nationwide travel will be involved in this role.

Your mission

• Demonstrate a proven track record of delivering environmental improvements within the sector and across associated trades.
• Possess advanced knowledge of ISO 14001 compliance and assurance, along with key environmental aspects.
• Lead management reviews, ensuring procedures and plans are continually improved.
• Have a good working knowledge of key strategy aspects such as decarbonisation, circular economy, climate adaptation, and biodiversity.
• Adhere to industry standards, company procedures, and legal requirements.
• Communicate identified opportunities and threats to the team and relevant projects.
• Understand sector-specific reporting standards and key performance indicators.
• Possess knowledge or experience with environmental certification/assessment tools (e.g., BREEAM, LEED, WELL, NABERS).
• Translate complex technical information into clear guidance for operational teams.
• Conduct awareness and training sessions across the value chain.
• Promote awareness and support delivery of decarbonization, circular economy, climate adaptation, and biodiversity initiatives.
• Attend key operational meetings as required by the SESM.
• Regularly review data to identify trends and opportunities for improvement at site and regional levels.
• Understand data governance and analytics to deliver meaningful KPIs.
• Monitor productivity and deadlines, ensuring tasks add value.
• Collaborate with the Environmental Sustainability team to define a cohesive approach within BAM UK&I.
• Maintain awareness of the interdependencies between environmental sustainability and other key themes and functions.
• Hold full membership and/or chartership with a relevant professional institution.

Who are we looking for?

The ideal candidate will have extensive relevant experience and be willing to travel nationwide. Your expertise will support continuous improvement, work-winning, and compliance with ISO 14001.

• Minimum Level 8 Degree in Environmental or a related discipline.
• Proven experience supporting environmental and sustainability performance on projects.
• Ability to travel nationwide.
• Detailed knowledge of national and EU environmental legislation and policies.
• Knowledge of Environmental Management Systems.
