Design Build Search are working closely with one of Cork's leading contractors. Due to exciting growth across multiple sectors, they have an opening for a Senior QS. The successful applicant will be based in our client's head office, 30 minutes northwest of Cork City. The successful applicant will be working on a mix of projects from residential, industrial, education, and fit-out.

Scope of Projects:

Residential, fit-out, education, and industrial.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Hold a degree in construction economics or Quantity Surveying.
  • Minimum 5 years' experience.
  • Ability to price and estimate projects.
  • Ability to agree on final accounts and negotiate with sub-contractors.

Role and Responsibilities:

  • Analyse blueprints and other documentation to prepare time, cost, materials, and labour costs vs estimates.
  • Perform all quantity surveying duties including measurements, valuation, and agreement of work sections.
  • Demonstrate well-developed interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Be competent in estimating packages, Microsoft Excel, and Word.
  • Consult with clients, vendors, and personnel in other departments or construction managers/supervisors to discuss costs.
  • Monitor costs from vendors or subcontractors, explore variances, manage issues in conjunction with the manager, and deal with cost recovery.
  • Report on actual costs and examine estimates used by management for planning, organizing, and scheduling work.
  • Prepare cost and expenditure statements and other necessary documentation at regular intervals for the duration of the project.
  • Assess cost-effectiveness of products, projects, or services, tracking actual costs relative to bids as the project develops.
  • Set up cost monitoring and reporting systems and procedures.
  • Conduct special studies to develop and establish standard hours and related cost data to be effective on cost reduction.
