Six Health Regions have been established within the HSE, based on the geographical boundaries agreed by the Government in July 2019. They will be fully operational from 2024 onwards. Each Health Region will be responsible for population-specific planning, resourcing, and delivery of health and social care services tailored to its community. This structure aims to improve accountability, governance, and performance management.

The role involves providing direct and indirect day-to-day care for residents, supporting the delivery of high-quality, hygienic, and customer-focused services, including:
- Assisting nurses and healthcare staff in caring for residents
- Using a person-centred approach to resident care
- Maintaining high standards in housekeeping, catering, laundry, portering, or general duties
- Promoting service user choice and independence
- Completing relevant documentation as required
- Adhering to HSE policies and procedures
