Location/Division Specific Information

Our PPD Laboratory Services team has a direct impact on improving patient health through the expertise of scientists, industry thought-leaders and therapeutic guides. Discover Impactful Work:

The duties of Pharma Scientist include performing a variety of complex sample preparation and analysis procedures to quantitatively measure small molecules using a wide range of analytical instrumentation, predominantly working on Gas Chromatography. Working mainly independently, Scientists will interpret analytical data regarding acceptability and consistency and set up and maintain analytical instrumentation.

A day in the Life

  • Perform a variety of complex sample preparations on GC
  • Analysis procedures to quantitatively measure pharmaceutical compounds in various formulations for stability testing and other studies for analytical testing support
  • Review and compile results
  • Perform work assignments accurately, timely and safely
  • Train on routine operation, maintenance and theory of analytical instrumentation, SOPs, and regulatory procedures and guidelines
  • Work with multiple functional groups to meet business needs
  • Set up and maintain analytical instrumentation
  • Ensure QA findings are addressed appropriately
  • Communicate project status to project leader
  • Review, interpret, and analyze data for technical, quality and compliance to protocols, methods, SOPs, client criteria and Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) or Good Laboratory Practices (GLP)

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant area, e.g., chemistry, pharmaceutical analysis, or similar
  • 3+ years of relevant industry experience within a GMP laboratory with GC experience

In some cases, an equivalency, consisting of a combination of appropriate education, training and/or directly related experience, will be considered sufficient for an individual to meet the requirements of the role.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities

  • Proven ability to interpret data by performing trend analysis
  • Proven technical writing skills
  • Detailed knowledge of method validation; method development would be an advantage
  • Ability to plan, schedule and carry out work for successful project completion
  • Positive attitude and ability to work well with others
  • Ability to write protocols and reports with minimum supervision
  • Excellent attention to detail
  • Effective communication skills and ability to follow detailed written and verbal instructions
