RoleAs a Mechanical Colocation Engineer, you will drive Mechanical Engineering services, construction and implementation of enterprise data centers, meeting quality and performance levels across the globe. You will work directly with Design Engineering Stakeholders, Construction, Operations, and Commissioning teams regionally and globally. You will lead projects to fit out the data centers we support to meet evolving customer needs as we continue expanding our fleet to hyper-scale.
The Mechanical Colocation Engineer represents the Data Center Field Engineering Team for the successful delivery of projects. You will assist in data center site selection, planning, and development. You will evaluate different mechanical systems and make data-driven decisions based on our guidelines.
This role may be assigned to an Amazon Building or Data Center and regularly requires visits to customer locations or other non-corporate Amazon sites. You will be expected to work from an Amazon building, Data Center, or customer location as needed per business requirements.
Key responsibilities- Work with colo vendors to review the design for new data centers in your region, including design input, submittal review, and incorporating AWS products to ensure the design meets AWS expectations.
- Act as resident engineer during new colo construction projects. Support construction, commissioning, and handover.
- Troubleshoot, conduct Root Cause Analysis (RCA), and create Corrective Action (CA) documentation for site/equipment failures.
- Directly support operational issues with ad-hoc training, complex operating procedure reviews, including essential equipment, and event support.
- Provide technical support to the design for existing data center upgrades and design-solutions that add capacity, improve availability, and increase efficiency.
- Support operating partners to lead, review, and approve designs for existing co-location data center upgrades which improve availability/efficiency.
- Interface with operating partners, data center design engineering team, server hardware team, and EHS team to promote standards that maintain consistency and reliability in services delivered by operating partners.
- Work on concurrent projects, sometimes in multiple geographical regions.
- Initiate and lead engineering site audits within leased or colo data centers. Produce reports outlining risks with recommended mitigations and remediations.
- Each day you will interact with different teams responsible for all aspects of the data centers.
- You will prioritize your activities to support data center capacity, availability, and safety, focusing on the most impactful actions.
- You will have the opportunity to work on projects locally and globally.
- You will be leading projects to fit out the data centers we support to meet evolving customer needs as we continue expanding our fleet to hyper-scale.

Basic qualifications- Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent experience
- 6+ years of experience in industrial or commercial engineering in mission-critical facilities, including data centers, power generation, or related sectors
- Good communication skills
- Experience with web-based tools for calculation and data processing
- Direct experience with design, construction, operation, or maintenance of mission-critical facilities, especially data centers
- Experience as a resident engineer or in-field design consultant;Registered Professional Engineer
- Strong understanding of mechanical equipment/design for data centers (e.g., VFDs, chillers, pumps, cooling towers, CRAHs, air economizers)
