Job Description:

Main Purpose and Objectives

  • Have a good understanding of the site's production infrastructure, including electrical, mechanical & E&I systems, steam, process water, life safety, and the criticality of their use/function.
  • Assure that maintenance and related infrastructure are "fit for use" when needed and in a state of compliance.
  • Maintenance of electrical/mechanical systems of the manufacturing plant, from installation to troubleshooting.
  • Improve the plant's efficiency, upgrade to new technologies, repair equipment, increase production, and reduce manufacturing issues including bottlenecks.
  • Understand the design history of the plant/facility, including Code, Environmental, and/or other regulatory limitations.
  • Have a basic understanding of the customer processes supported (e.g., manufacturing, laboratory, admin) and understand day-to-day issues of the actual operation.
  • Work directly with Utilities, Automation, and Operations personnel to identify and develop the Plan for asset recapitalization.
  • Provide engineering expertise to the Maintenance Department and maintenance principal engineers (Mec, Elec, E&I) in the evaluation of Maintenance Strategies.
  • Have a basic understanding of the tools for condition-based maintenance.
  • Understand and apply engineering, quality, and health, safety and environmental requirements as defined in Lilly Global Engineering Standards and Best Practices, Global Quality Standards and HSE Standards.
  • Know what jurisdictional codes apply and work to achieve ongoing compliance.
  • Apply Root Cause Failure Analysis to determine the cause and develop countermeasures to prevent reoccurrence.
  • Fully meet roles and responsibilities as described in the Manufacturing Standards for Operational Excellence.

Responsibilities

  • Support the Design and Implementation of new or modified Equipment, ensuring compliance with engineering and qualification requirements.
  • Ensure changes in facilities are within allowable load limits for buildings and structures.
  • Perform Building Code analysis to ensure compliance with Building, Fire, and other Codes.
  • Participate in corporate and regulated assessments or compliance requirements/initiatives providing technical support and expertise.
  • Contribute to long-range plan development to provide technical support and input for project definitions and implementation plans.
  • Comply with applicable trainings as assigned and participate in the training process of other employees.
  • Participate in designated teams (i.e., Contractor Safety, Best Management Practices (BMP)).
  • Support/Lead changes and/or investigations related to the area of expertise.
  • Develop and maintain an updated obsolete assets strategy of the Plant.
  • Communicate effectively with key personnel from other sites and functional areas to facilitate improvements and troubleshooting.
  • Help identify and coordinate shutdown activities and required actions/projects to be implemented during shutdown.
  • Support mitigation strategies to avoid plant interruptions and develop return to service strategies.
  • Review and provide feedback to Engineering Standards related to Capital Delivery.
  • Participate in design review meetings related to capital projects to assure incorporation of Engineering Standards and Master Spec's requirements.
  • Develop the annual Resource Assessment (RA) for areas of expertise or support provided.
  • Support development and routine review process for the Site Master Plan.

Comply with all EH&S requirements such as:

  • Comply with procedures of Occupational Safety and Environmental groups.
  • Request necessary tools to perform job safely.
  • Report any concerns to Occupational group (H&S).
  • Identify and alert of potential risks and report incidents immediately.
  • Participate in the evaluation of incidents and near misses and provide suggestions to prevent future incidents.
  • Ensure personal and coworker safety is prioritized.
  • Actively participate in health and safety initiatives.
  • Use provided safety equipment and maintain personal protection equipment.
  • Attend required health and safety trainings.
  • Keep required licenses/certifications updated.
  • Work under limited supervision in accordance with laws and Lilly global standards.

Startup Responsibilities

  • Support the start of a new production facility and new site services.
  • Support the development of training material.
  • Work with project team for successful handover of systems from project to site.
  • Develop efficient and sustainable business processes & practices.
  • Support operational readiness plans and schedule adherence.
  • Be flexible to support a fast-changing startup of a new facility.

Internal Regulatory Fulfilment and Compliance

Complete the required compliance training and apply knowledge in daily work and business relationships.

Safety

  • Comply with safety goals and objectives of the organization.
  • Monitor personal performance in health and safety.
  • Notify and initiate actions to correct any hazards in the working area.
  • Participate in applicable safety trainings.
  • Notify Management of any emergency incidents.
  • Use office supplies efficiently to minimize waste.
  • Observe, promote, and comply with EPA and internal environmental standards.

Educational Requirement

Master's or PhD in engineering is advantageous.

Experience Requirements

  • At least 5 years in the pharmaceutical industry with experience in Engineering, Maintenance, Utilities, Manufacturing, and Facilities.
  • Experience in equipment design, construction, and startup.
  • Excellent communication skills at all levels.
  • Self-initiative to resolve discrepancies.
  • Excellent technical documentation and review skills.

Requirements

  • Excellent technical writing skills.
  • Knowledge of computerized systems and Good Manufacturing Practices, E&HS Regulations.
