Job Description

The new post holder will agree on their work schedule with the General Manager and Clinical Director and will collaborate with other Consultant Surgeons to provide services at Wexford General Hospital.

Existing facilities such as Theatre, Endoscopy, and Outpatient services will be shared equally among all Surgeons. Non-Consultant Hospital Doctors will work with the Consultant teams.

The hospital has the following facilities:

  • 222 Beds at Wexford General Hospital
  • 5 ICU beds
  • 5 CCU/HDU beds
  • 3 Operating theatres
  • Two Endoscopy Units

The consultant will participate in regular clinical, audit, and other meetings with colleagues from all specialties in line with CME guidelines and PCS activities.

Departmental activity and performance will be reviewed at the department and hospital governance levels. The appointee will liaise with colleagues regularly regarding performance against targets and take appropriate actions as necessary.

The post will operate within the governance structure of Wexford General Hospital and CHO5, as part of the Peri-Operative Directorate and clinical directorate. The appointee will report to the executive team with established targets and KPIs.

The minimum on-call requirement is 1:4 (subject to change).

The appointee will maintain current services at WGH and uphold existing hours allocated to NCHD teaching and training.
