Salary: €37,010 p.a. pro rata

JOB SYNOPSIS

If so, we want to draw your attention to three Teaching Assistant positions in the Department of Accounting and Finance at the Kemmy Business School, University of Limerick, Ireland.

QUALIFICATIONS
  • Relevant Level 8* NFQ primary degree at 2.1 honours level in the broad areas of accounting, finance, taxation, insurance or an adjacent field (or a current QCA Higher than 3.00 for final year student).

* Final year undergraduate students are welcome to apply but their degree must be completed by the time of taking up the position (3rd week of August 2025).

OVERALL PURPOSE OF THE JOB

Reporting directly to the Head of the Department of Accounting and Finance, the Teaching Assistant (TA) is appointed to carry out a range of teaching and support functions for the Accounting and Finance faculty. The primary tasks associated with the role are to organise, update and deliver a number of tutorials weekly to student groups principally at undergraduate levels, and to maintain accurate records and schedules related to teaching activities. TAs will be required to assist with grading, handle student queries and provide guidance to students. Some e-moderation responsibilities may form part of the role, and occasional administrative and research support to faculty may be required from time to time.

Occasionally, opportunities to deliver guest lectures or a series of guest lectures may be offered particularly to those with relevant prior teaching, research or industry experience. Appointees are encouraged to pursue their own professional development and research interests while in the role, and to avail of the various resources that are available to support that.

The Department of Accounting and Finance comprises scholars who champion excellent and impactful research and teaching. Our research profile is characterised by our expertise in the domains of Critical Accounting, Accountability, AI, Contemporary Taxation, Climate Finance, Sustainability and Risk Management. Our research leadership is strongly reflected in the quality of our publication and citation records, our sustained successes in securing international and national competitive grant funding, and the impact of our industry/organisation-level research. Our commitment to teaching excellence extends to all our students across the programmes we deliver and is reflected in the quality of the teaching environments created by our award-winning faculty.

The Department now wishes to recruit three Teaching Assistants to support this teaching environment and to deliver tutorials in the areas of Accounting, Finance, and Insurance. Successful applicants will be required to carry out teaching, administrative and assessment duties connected with the post, and any other duties as may be assigned from time to time by the Head of Department.

Successful candidates will join a busy, creative and supportive academic Department and will be encouraged to pursue available personal and professional development opportunities while in the role. The role of the Teaching Assistant provides good oversight of what an academic career entails. Beyond this, however, it provides a great opportunity to deepen existing subject knowledge, in addition to developing a number of important professional competences and skills that are readily transferable to any workplace – including time management, task scheduling, training design and delivery, teamworking, interpersonal communication, and presentation skills.

This appointment will be filled on a contract basis for 10 months, with the possibility of being renewed for a second 10-month period.

Essential Criteria
  • Relevant Level 8* NFQ primary degree at 2.1 honours level in the broad areas of accounting, finance, taxation, insurance or an adjacent field (or a current QCA Higher than 3.00 for final year student).

Desirable Criteria:
  • Completion or partial completion of a post-graduate degree in a cognate area.
  • Previous teaching or tutoring experience.
  • Previous grading experience.
