The Chief Civil Engineer (CCE) is seeking to recruit a CCE Assistant Environmental Manager to provide specialist support regarding legal compliance, environmental management, biodiversity goals, and resource management improvements.

Your New Role & Purpose

As an Assistant Environmental Manager in their Environmental Department, your role is to support the CCE, Infrastructure Managers, Regional Managers, and Building & Facilities to ensure maintenance activities are advanced efficiently, maintaining the safety of train services and passenger movement, while also protecting the natural environment within Iarnród Éireann lands. The duties include:

  • Providing leadership assistance and contributing to the efficient functioning of the CCE Environmental Department.
  • Deputising for the CCE Environment & Sustainability Manager as required and managing department resources and work activities.
  • Managing the CCE Environmental Management System to retain ISO14001 certification.
  • Maintaining environmental records and statistics related to conditions along the railway network.
  • Supporting various CCE business units in developing environmental controls for maintenance works.
  • Implementing environmental and biodiversity improvement initiatives.
  • Liaising with regulatory bodies and external stakeholders regarding railway activities and infrastructural improvements.
  • Ensuring compliance with all applicable environmental and planning legislation.
  • Organising environmental training programmes to raise awareness among CCE staff.
  • Ensuring all works are planned safely in accordance with CCE safety management systems and procedures.
What You'll Need to Succeed

Essential:

  • Level 8 degree (minimum) in an environment-related discipline.
  • 10 years' post-graduate work experience.
  • Detailed knowledge of Irish and EU environmental and planning legislation.
  • Knowledge of Environmental Management Systems.

Desirable:

  • Experience and/or knowledge of environmental aspects within a railway/transport environment.
  • Affiliation with a relevant professional body.
  • Full clean driving licence.

Competencies:

  • Specialist environmental knowledge.
  • Strategic thinking.
  • Collaboration and influencing skills.
  • Leadership and change management.
