Overview

Senior Cost Accountant role at BioMarin Pharmaceutical Inc. (18 Month Contract) located in Shanbally, Ringaskiddy, Co. Cork. The Senior Cost Accountant will be part of the TOPS Finance organization and the Consolidated Reporting team, responsible for global TOPS reporting including inventory costing, excess & obsolescence, SOX compliance, US GAAP audits, intercompany profit elimination, and balance sheet reconciliations. This position works with cross-functional teams across regional and global finance and technical operations to support manufacturing and supply chain finance operations.

Responsibilities
  • Month-end close responsibilities including appropriate treatment of operating overhead, balance sheet reconciliations per US GAAP, and submission of close deliverables.
  • Accounting for manufacturing activity including material purchases, overhead absorption and contract manufacturing costs.
  • Ensure correct accounting for Buy/Sell entities and intercompany inventory transactions, including calculating and recording Profit in Inventory (PII) eliminations.
  • Develop understanding of material flow from bulk manufacturing through fill/finish to ensure inventory value accuracy.
  • Monitor production plans for bulk manufacturing and CMO activity to ensure accurate inventory valuation and overhead absorption.
  • Conduct data mining and analysis, interpreting information and communicating insights to stakeholders.
  • Complete inventory costing activities for new inventory items, coordinating with business functions on costing requirements and timelines.
  • Evaluate inventory balances for excess and obsolescence and determine need for inventory reserves.
  • Review and analyze inventory variances monthly and work with business functions to understand drivers.
  • Participate in the annual standard cost setting process.
  • Assist with preparation of consolidated financial management reporting for TOPS for balance sheet and P&L inventory areas.
  • Review and maintain cycle counts and address discrepancies; collaborate with CMO, supply chain and manufacturing to ensure inventory accuracy at all locations.
  • Maintain internal controls in line with corporate standards, GAAP and Sarbanes-Oxley requirements; work with internal and external auditors as required.
  • Establish relationships with Corporate & Regional Finance teams to ensure timely and accurate reporting.
  • Represent TOPS Finance in local and global projects, drive continuous improvement, and participate in transformation initiatives as needed.
  • Collaborate with ERP and global finance teams to identify and implement process enhancements for efficiency.
  • Interact effectively within the workgroup and cross-functional teams; demonstrate strong customer service orientation and teamwork.
Education & Experience
  • Experience in a multinational organization with inventory costing experience.
  • Experience with process improvement initiatives and working autonomously.
  • Knowledge of US GAAP, Sarbanes-Oxley and internal control environment desirable.
  • Experience with an integrated ERP system, general ledger, sub-ledger processes, and period closing; SAP experience is a distinct advantage.
