Job Purpose

The Irish College of GPs CME small group learning has been the most popular type of GP educational experience since its inception in the early 1980s. The meetings aim to develop and support excellent patient care in Irish General Practice through the delivery of continuous medical education, which promotes evidence-based medicine with shared decision making, along with GP personal development.

Key Result Areas (KRAs)
  1. Each tutor should facilitate a minimum of three CME groups, open to GPs meeting the Irish College of GPs PCS requirements and residing or working in the catchment area.
  2. Notify all participating GPs of meetings via email and/or WhatsApp, ensuring at least seven two-hour meetings are available per annum.
  3. Provide a syllabus for all small groups in consultation with participants, the National Director, and other CME providers within the area.
  4. Prepare meetings based on educational material assessed at the national tutor workshop or self-developed, promoting evidence-based medicine, shared decision-making, and GP personal development.
  5. Use assessment methods to evaluate the benefits of the programme to participants.
  6. Maintain attendance records and submit monthly reports to the National Director, including meeting details, attendance, agendas, materials, and evaluations.
  7. Provide CPD codes or certificates of attendance with CPD points and GMS study leave entitlement.
  8. Adhere to the Irish College of GPs sponsorship policy when dealing with educational sponsors.
  9. Attend the CME Tutor's workshop three times per year.
  10. Follow all policies and guidelines related to the CME Tutor Network Scheme, including participating in scheme visits, record maintenance, and reporting.
  11. Manage and oversee group leaders as per scheme policies.
  12. Participate in research to demonstrate learning outcomes or similar projects.
Person Specification

The ideal candidate will possess the following qualifications, experience, skills, and competencies:

Qualifications & Experience
  • Registration on the Register of Medical Specialists in General Practice (Medical Council).
  • Member of the Irish College of General Practitioners, holding MICGP, and in good standing.
  • Practising GP with at least five clinical sessions per week, living near or within the designated Irish College of GPs Faculty area.
  • Enrolled in and compliant with the Irish College of GPs Professional Competence Scheme.
