Job Description Summary

The Associate Director - PMO is responsible for leading cross-functional teams in the successful execution of product development projects from inception through commercialization and post-launch support. This role ensures the core products within the platform are effectively managed while driving innovation, new product development, and expansion into emerging markets. The Associate Director oversees project planning, resource allocation, risk mitigation, and budget management, ensuring alignment with business objectives and market needs. Additionally, they are accountable for maintaining compliance with quality management and regulatory standards while fostering a culture of collaboration and excellence.

This position plays a critical leadership role in advancing next-generation AI platforms and automated storage and dispensing solutions. By leveraging technical expertise, agile methodologies, and cross-functional team coordination, the Associate Director drives strategic initiatives that enhance customer satisfaction and business growth. They will guide teams through problem resolution, risk management, and governance processes while ensuring projects meet key milestones and deliverables. With a focus on innovation, process optimization, and organizational alignment, this leader ensures the successful development and delivery of high-impact solutions in a fast-paced, evolving market.

About the role

The Associate Director - PMO leads the cross-functional Core Team and Extended Team in driving all aspects of product development projects, including successful product development over the complete product life cycle (inception through development, high volume manufacturing, post-launch and commercialization as well as sustaining the product post-launch). You will be ultimately responsible for the execution, quality and results of projects and the success of the resulting product in the market along with ensuring the core products within the platform are supported. The Associate Director - PMO is responsible for creating the project work breakdown structures, integrated business plans, project charters/contracts and all elements that comprise best practice product development essentials. You will manage the day-to-day activities of team members, track progress against the plan, manage the project budget, identify project risks and provide plans to mitigate those risks.

Main responsibilities will include:

  1. Apply extensive technical expertise and have full knowledge of cross-functional teams.
  2. Develop technical and business process solutions to complex problems that require the regular use of ingenuity and creativity.
  3. Execute milestone-based program planning (Daily Standup, risk register management, Gantt chart planning) for sustaining and product development projects.
  4. Understanding and experience of agile concepts (Daily Standup, Sprint Planning, Sprint Retrospectives, Sprint Reviews, PI Planning).
  5. Design and perform complex development, working with functional and multifunctional teams within defined parameters.
  6. Modify methodologies and procedures as applicable to the project for quicker, valid results.
  7. Define program resource needs and project plans necessary to complete the required and prioritized work within the platform/portfolio.
  8. Lead the effort to prepare the project contracts, TPP, business cases, etc., as appropriate, communicating and influencing leadership to ensure the appropriate cross-functional Core Team resources are assigned to the portfolio priorities and committed by cross-functional organizational leadership.
  9. Lead the core team, influence, encourage, support, and hold both the core team and cross-functional leadership accountable for commitments made regarding resource allocation, capabilities needed, and tasks expected to enable successful delivery of business and customer commitments and expectations.
  10. Own the platform program roadmap and ensure the delivery of each element of the product development pipeline in collaboration with the cross-functional Core team members.
  11. Lead product development activity, ensuring that a structured design and development process is followed, compliance with quality management systems, and regulatory requirements are aligned as appropriate.
  12. Lead the core team to prepare and deliver a balanced and articulated representation of the relevant data to prepare for interim, gate and other critical business reviews.
  13. Ensure alignment across product value proposition, program scope, and strategic business objectives.
  14. Led program planning and ensured that all cross-functional elements were incorporated to adequately deliver the overall product and project requirements.
  15. Ensure governance mechanisms, such as core team meetings, key technical design and commercial excellence and industrialization reviews, are undertaken promptly, comprehensively, and effectively.
  16. Identify and lead project risks and issues, ensuring timely mitigation and resolution with impacted functions/stakeholders.
  17. Lead cross-functional Core Team through problem resolution, including root cause analysis and corrective and preventive action.
  18. Constructively challenge the Core Team and the organization to rethink assumptions and approach headwinds and challenges in new and creative ways by creating a common purpose and direction.
  19. Build high morale and ensure the entire Core Team commits to the target goals and objectives.
  20. Provide management with review opportunities at key points and upon completion.
  21. Implement the strategic and technical direction for the product/project/portfolio cross-functional core team.

About you

Exceptional at facilitating the core team and developing and cultivating high-performing core team dynamics. Possess the skills and ability to engage, influence, and direct all functions involved in developing our products. Exceptional influencing skills with the ability to achieve challenging goals through others without direct authority across all functions, various levels of the organization, external partners, geographies, and cultures. Able to lead programs delivering successful outcomes balancing on-time delivery, budget, quality and market and customer expectations and successfully articulate necessary tradeoffs. Exceptional at integrated program planning along with tactical project planning, risk management, project execution and communication to all levels of the organization. Outstanding in time management, self-control, and continuous learning, drives field yet flexible and nimble as appropriate. Ability to take disparate data points to make sound business decisions and clarify ambiguous situations. Exceptional critical thinking in all aspects of the project development journey and in the leadership of the core team. Able to condense complex issues and information into easy-to-understand messages.

Education and experience:

Bachelor's degree required. MBA or other advanced business/technical/management degree preferred. Experience leading hardware and software integrated products desired. Minimum 12+ years of experience in successfully leading complex, multiyear new product development programs delivered through successful cross-functional teams based in a matrix organization.
