Role ProfileThe School of Computing is seeking to appoint a Full Professor of Computing on a permanent basis. The successful candidate will be an internationally recognised academic committed to pioneering software engineering and computing related research, contributing to the strategic direction of the core computing research initiatives in the School and DCU. Reporting to the Head of School of Computing, the successful candidate will contribute to teaching, curriculum development, research and administrative activities across all levels.
Duties and ResponsibilitiesThe duties and responsibilities of the position include, but are not limited to the following:
Teaching and Learning
- Lead teaching and learning activity in the school by coordinating and delivering teaching to the highest academic standards.
- Use a wide range of teaching and assessment methodologies to foster deep learning and equip students with lifelong learning skills.
- Design and develop new and internationally recognised undergraduate and postgraduate programmes.
- Enrich the scholarship of teaching within the school and foster a culture of teaching innovation and positive learning environment.
- Supervise postgraduate research students and contribute to the School's PhD supervisory process.
Research and Scholarship
- Engage in innovative and impactful research; publish as lead or senior author in top tier journals and international conferences.
- Participate in research-related activities such as supervision and PhD thesis examination.
- Secure external funding to support personal and school research initiatives.
- Mentor early and mid-career researchers and academics; host international events and conferences to enhance the School's reputation.
- Develop and leverage international research networks; contribute to skill enhancement of research students and staff.
- Demonstrate industrial and societal impact through IP and spin-out activities when applicable.
Service and Contribution to the University and Society
- Contribute to the School's strategic planning and collaborative delivery of goals.
- Deliver management and service roles at School, Faculty and University levels.
- Participate in relevant committees, working groups and meetings; engage in staff development and coaching.
- Enhance the School's reputation through external engagement and leadership in activities with industry, professional bodies and community partners.
- Play active leadership roles at the University/Faculty/School level as appropriate.
Leadership
- Foster teaching innovation and lead interdisciplinary research within the discipline and wider University.
- Provide mentorship to early and mid-career academics; lead accreditation activities; engage in school marketing and stakeholder relations.
Qualifications and Experience
- PhD in Computer Science or related area.
- Broad and deep teaching experience in higher education.
- Expertise in software engineering, data science, artificial intelligence or education technology with potential to enhance DCU's international profile.
- Proven track record in teaching excellence and research with impactful outputs and external funding.
- Evidence of leading multi-party consortia and attracting research funding; strong supervision record.
- Strong leadership attributes, excellent interpersonal and communication skills, and a collaborative ethos.
- Transformational leadership in strategic School/Faculty/University programmes.
The postholder will be required to undertake essential compliance training: Orientation, Health & Safety, Data Protection (GDPR), Cyber Security Awareness, AI Literacy.
SalaryFull Professor - €144,297 - €182,406. Refer to DCU Payscales for the applicable payscale. Appointment will be commensurate with qualifications and experience and in line with current Government pay policy.
