Meet the team

RTÉ will shortly have a vacancy for the Head of Editorial Standards and Compliance. Reporting to the Director-General, this role has responsibility for the maintenance of editorial standards and the allied management of reputational and editorial risk.

As Head of Editorial Standards & Compliance you will act as a key support to editorial staff across all platforms in the delivery of content, ensuring RTÉ adheres to the principles of fairness, impartiality and objectivity, and the protection of audiences from undue offence and from harm, in keeping with RTÉ Guidelines, broadcasting legislation and Coimisiún na Meán codes.

About the role:

  • Management of the RTÉ Complaints Process and of responses to complaints referred to Coimisiún na Meán.
  • Chairing and executive leadership of the Editorial Standards Board, including ongoing review of RTÉ editorial guidelines, pre-transmission viewings and ongoing content reviews.
  • Advisory resource to editorial executives on reputational and editorial risk and compliance.
  • Management and leadership of the RTÉ Election/Referendum Steering Group and related compliance matters.
  • Engagement with key stakeholders such as Coimisiún na Meán, Electoral Commission, Oireachtas Committees, government departments and political representatives.
  • Responding to representations, as required, on behalf of RTÉ/Director General and other duties assigned by the Director General.
  • Staff training and development on the practical application of editorial guidelines and standards, including e-learning modules.

About you:

  • Significant relevant experience in broadcasting at a senior editorial/ production level.
  • A working knowledge of RTÉ editorial guidelines, broadcasting legislation and regulatory codes.
  • Excellent and precise written and oral communication skills.
  • Strong organisational and interpersonal skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work collegially with programme-makers, while offering an independent perspective as required.
  • Ability to proactively manage RTÉ's engagement with relevant stakeholders.
  • A working knowledge of the operation of RTÉ Register of Interests, Register of External Activities and Register of Gifts.

This appointment will be made on a personal manager grade and is being offered on an ongoing contract basis. The expected salary on appointment is between €110,000 to €120,000 (subject to relevant skills, knowledge and experience).
