CSSD Operative - 6 Month FTC - UPMC Kildare

Overview of role:

We are currently recruiting for a CSSD/Endoscopy Decontamination Operative on a 20-hour, 6-month fixed-term contract at UPMC Kildare Hospital. The post holder is responsible for cleaning, disinfection, packing, and autoclaving of instruments using mechanical and manual methods, ensuring a high-quality service.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Decontaminate used medical devices using mechanical methods.
  • Inspect and function test medical devices. Report discrepancies immediately to CSSD Manager.
  • Assemble, inspect, and pack instrument sets and equipment for sterilization.
  • Load and unload autoclaves, sterilize packs and sets of instruments.
  • Prepare and examine packs for tears and dampness before storage.
  • Distribute and store sterilized equipment and instruments appropriately.
  • Monitor autoclaves, washers/disinfectors, and check parameters for malfunctions.
  • Conduct daily/weekly testing of sterilization equipment.
  • Record data in logbooks with signatures.
  • Maintain records in line with departmental and EU legislation.
  • Archive documents according to legislation.
  • Stock shelves with sterile supplies and assist with stock control.
  • Handle raw materials appropriately.
  • Follow infection prevention policies and standard precautions.
  • Use PPE and adhere to Health & Safety standards.
  • Report incidents or accidents to the CSSD Manager.
  • Participate in traceability and hygiene audits.
  • Maintain cleanliness and tidiness in the department.
  • Communicate effectively within the multidisciplinary team.
  • Provide safe patient care practices.
  • Ensure equipment checks are completed as per hospital policy.
  • Show initiative and receptiveness to development.
  • Deliver messages accurately and mentor new technicians.
  • Engage in ongoing training and education.

No formal qualifications required.
