Summary of Post We now seek a full time Clinical Research Nurse to join the team in the RCSI Clinical Research Centre (CRC) based at Beaumont Hospital. This is an excellent opportunity for an individual who can demonstrate a keen interest in the role of clinical research nurse to become a key member of a dynamic research team in an innovative and progressive research environment. This role also includes Infectious Diseases Clinical Trial Network Coordinator (ID-CTNC) responsibility for one day per week. The ID-CTNC will be central to ensuring the efficient and effective delivery of Infectious Diseases research activities in Beaumont Hospital and will represent the hospital at ID- CTN meetings. The ID-CTNI network brings together a team with expertise in leading, directing and assisting Infectious Diseases clinical trials and investigations, both investigator and industry led. The multidisciplinary network comprises academic clinicians and researchers from: University College Dublin/St Vincent's University Hospital & Mater Misericordiae University Hospital University College Cork/Cork University Hospital Trinity College Dublin/St James's Hospital Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland/Beaumont Hospital University of Galway/Galway University Hospital The objectives of the ID-CTNI include: Implement a governance structure that improves Infectious Diseases clinical trial design, methods, and coordination in Ireland. Integration of existing investigator-initiated clinical trials and the implementation of new multicentre clinical trials. The expertise within the ID-CTNI enables better integration of resources and training of new researchers in Infectious Diseases, this will better place ID-CTNI research internationally. Along with other clinical trial networks, align and integrate with national strategic initiatives in Infectious Diseases to be better prepared for future pandemics. Specifically, the duties of the post are: Clinical Research Nurse RCSI CRC (four days per week): Coordinate and manage clinical research projects assigned to you in adherence with the research protocols and associated study standard operating procedures (4 days per week). Coordination of a research study will include screening and recruitment of study participants, coordination of study visits and follow up visits, preforming study procedures, chart review, data collection and data entry, safety information reporting and communication with the study sponsor and wider research team. Be competent in the clinical duties delegated to you for the purpose of the study and be to undertake all study specific training. Where relevant, ensure that the processing and storage of biological samples meets the necessary requirements of the research protocol in order to make certain that safe handling and quality is assured. Provide nursing knowledge, expertise and care to patients participating in research studies assigned to you. Ensure patient confidentiality and dignity is assured and maintained at all times during a clinical trial/research project. Adhere to data protection legislation and follow procedures to ensure confidentiality of the data collected for the project. Adhere to International Conference on Harmonisation Good Clinical Practice Guidelines and the applicable regulations. Assist the Principal Investigator(s) in delivering study training to other members of the research team or relevant ward staff when applicable, including new team members. Ensure effective communication and liaison with other research staff within the department and the hospital. Play an active role in driving and promoting clinical research projects assigned to you. Take responsibility for establishing and maintenance of clinical research governance documentation, including: site files, case record forms and applicable source data documents. Ensure that all hospital and RCSI governance procedures and approvals have been adhered to and are in place prior to the commencement of all research projects. Adhere to the standard operating procedures and policies for Beaumont Hospital, the Clinical Research Centre and RCSI. Participate in CRC safety, management and quality assurance activities as assigned. Carry out other duties as appropriate to the post as may be assigned from time to time by the PI, CRC Director or CRC Director of Nursing. The post-holder will be part of a research team, in which case they are expected to work collaboratively to ensure the overall efficiency and performance of assigned research projects. Professional Development Maintain professional registration. Undertake further education as appropriate to keep updated with changes within the field of your assigned research project/s. Take responsibility for your own professional and competency development, including maintaining a record of training, continuing education and continuing professional development. Attend and participate in: In service and staff education Mandatory CRC and RCSI training Mandatory updating of clinical skills e.g. BLS CRC regular staff meetings Appropriate outside conferences and/or other professional development activities. Investigator meetings and / or study specific training for assigned studies. Quality Assurance Adhere to the CRC quality management system. Adhere to the CRC SOPs. Recording study activity tasks on the CRC study manager weekly. Maintain clinical and administrative records and reporting arrangements. ID CTN Coordinator role (one day per week): Be responsible for the organisation and management of the ID-CTN at Beaumont Hospital. Work with Infectious Diseases Beaumont hospital investigators to set up and manage Infectious Disease Network studies at Beaumont hospital. Conduct ID studies assigned to you in compliance with protocols and applicable SOPs. Promote and drive ID studies at Beaumont hospital to achieve set targets. Attend regular ID-CTN meetings and report on progress of ID research studies at Beaumont hospital. Attend Beaumont hospital ID research team meetings. Qualifications - (Essential): Successfully completed bachelor's degree level or above nursing education. Must be registered with an appropriate division of The Nursing and Midwifery Board of Ireland and eligible to work in Ireland. Knowledge & Experience - (Essential): Minimum 3 years post registration experience. Experience working in clinical research. Be able to demonstrate good knowledge of the role of a research nurse. Be able to demonstrate good knowledge of the processes for conducting a clinical trial. Proven recent clinical skills. Experience in phlebotomy and research samples management or demonstrate a willingness to learn. Knowledge & Experience - (Desirable): A minimum of one years' experience working as a research nurse. Experience in Infectious Disease Nursing Knowledge of research approvals processes. Excellent knowledge of the process for consenting for healthcare research. Experience in data collection for clinical research. Knowledge of International Conference on Harmonisation Good Clinical Practice Guidelines. Knowledge of the governance and legislative requirements surrounding the conduct of clinical research in Ireland. Excellent time management, organisational and problem-solving skills. Meticulous attention to detail. The ability to work in a safe manner independently under self-direction. Excellent interpersonal skills required to communicate and integrate with patients, clinicians, clinical teams, the extended research team, as well as colleagues across the Infectious Diseases Network relevant to the project.
