MBio is a business unit of Monaghan Mushrooms which houses the innovation capability of Group. The mushroom is a bio-economy superhero and Monaghan firmly positions sustainability and climate impact as a strategic focus for the Group. As Monaghan is vertically integrated the range of innovation extends from compost production right through to mushroom harvesting and waste valorisation. This role is pivotal to achieve the Groups longer term vision to ultimately set the next sustainable benchmark of mushroom production. MBio are looking for a bright minded, pro-activeFermentation Scientistto join our team.Reporting to theMicrobiology Principal Scientist, theFermentation Scientistwill provide specialist fermentation development knowledge and capability. Role Deliverables The deliverables of the Fermentation Scientistrole include: Work within a small microbiology/ fermentation team to define the process parameters necessary to achieve optimal production conditions. To set-up, operate, monitor and optimise microbial fermentation and down stream processes. Design of experiment (DOE) to assess the effect of multiple variables on fermentation performance. Manage the routine maintenance of fermenters and identifying issues which may impact their performance. Application and development of quality system underpinning activities. Sampling and sample analysis/ data analysis. Media preparation and inventory management. Development of technical reports and presentation of data to team members and other stakeholders Negotiation of pricing with suppliers. Keeping up with the pulse of technology and innovation in the broad area of microbiology, fermentation and down stream processing. As nature never stops flexibility will be an important feature of this role. Experience and Qualifications Qualifications BSc in Microbial Biotechnology or closely related with at least 2 years of experience working in fermentation optimisation is essential. MSc inMicrobial Biotechnology or closely relatedis preferred. Experience Experience in working on key fermentation/ microbial biotechnology projects will be beneficial. Possess excellent computer skills including databases, excel, word and statistical packages. Possess excellent communication skills (both written and verbal), excellent interpersonal and presentation skills as well as being team focused. Proven record of attention to detail and work with a sense of urgency yet have the ability to be impartial and objective.
