Associate Professorship in Game Psychology and HCI at IT University of Copenhagen

The Digital Design Department at the IT University of Copenhagen invites candidates for an Associate Professorship in the research Section for Play, Culture, and AI. The proposed starting date is August 2024 or soon thereafter.

The Department of Digital Design researches and teaches the design of digital technologies and services with a positive impact on society, industry, and climate in domains like public sector, health, welfare, and games.

Job Description
The candidate should have a relevant background in human-computer interaction or related fields and be highly qualified in empirical and conceptual research applied to the design, analysis, and evaluation of digital games . To be considered, candidates should be able to demonstrate research and teaching qualifications in at least three of the following areas:

• Game User Research
• Player Modelling and Metrics-Driven Design
• Theory-Formulation and Meta-Science

In the context of this position, we seek candidates who have strong interests and experiences in working at the intersection of play research and human-computer interaction. We seek a candidate who uses empirical methods and theory to develop a deeper understanding of how humans interact with games, as well as develop new practices that benefit play researchers and game makers. Applicants should provide a research plan explaining the research they wish to pursue in the position as Associate Professor. This plan should include a vision for how the candidate could contribute to interdisciplinary research bridging games and human-computer interaction.

Applicants should be able to carry out research-based teaching and supervision in a variety of subjects related to digital games and human-computer interaction on both the bachelor and master level. Furthermore, we seek candidates with qualifications and experience in attracting external funding. Applicants should provide a plan with ideas for developing and managing future efforts in outreach and industry involvement in relation to the department’s research focus.

The ideal candidate should document:

• Publications of research at a high international level in well-respected peer-reviewed venues.
• Competences in developing and conducting teaching that is well received by students.
• Ability to head and develop courses and education programs.
• Supervision experience, ideally at the postgraduate level.
• The ability to attract external research funding.

In addition, candidates for the position should be able to:

• Attract external research funding
• Read/speak a Scandinavian language (or have the willingness to learn Danish).

The IT University of Copenhagen (ITU) is a teaching and research-based tertiary institution concerned with information technology (IT) and the opportunities it offers. About the Digital Design Department
Digital Design is organized in three sections; Design Research, Play, Culture and AI, and Digital Societies and Participation. The sections serve as the organizational framework for the department’s research which is further divided into several research groups, labs, and a research center. We offer a BSc and MSc in Digital Design and Interactive Technologies and a MSc in Games. Our research and teaching approaches are based on diversity, inclusiveness interdisciplinarity and collaboration.

Salary and terms of employment
Appointment and salary will be in accordance with the Ministry of Taxation’s agreement with the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations (AC) and job structure for academic staff at Universities.

• Copies of max. 5 different publications of research at a high international level in well-respected peer reviewed venues that are relevant to the position (the publications should be numbered)
• Documentation of a) received observation and feedback on teaching, b) pedagogical experience and training courses as a teacher, c) a formal written assessment of teaching competence and d) a teaching record within at least three of the teaching areas listed for the position
• A record of contributing to the goals of the institutions in which the candidate has worked, for example participation in committees, etc.
