Global 4Mi and Data Coordinator for MMC

Ireland PARETO SECURITIES AS Full time

MMC is a global network engaged in data collection, research, analysis, and policy and programmatic development on mixed migration, with regional hubs in Africa, Asia and the Pacific, Europe and Latin America, and a global team based across Copenhagen, Geneva and Brussels. MMC is a leading source for independent and high-quality data, research, analysis and expertise on mixed migration. MMC aims to increase understanding of mixed migration, to positively impact global and regional migration policies, to inform evidence-based mixed migration responses for people on the move and to stimulate forward thinking in public and policy debates on mixed migration. MMC’s overarching focus is on human rights and protection for all people on the move.

Since 2014, MMC has been implementing the 4Mi data collection programme, a growing network of (100+) enumerators stationed in key migration hubs along major migration routes, who are interviewing migrants on a continuous basis. Since its inception, through the 4Mi programme, MMC has interviewed more than 120,000 migrants around the globe, making it the world’s largest, globally comparable data collection programme. Read more about 4Mi here: .

4Mi is MMCs flagship project and ensures the inclusion of migrant voices and provides the primary data feeding into the three overall objectives of MMC:

  • To increase the understanding of mixed migration
  • To contribute to policy development and debate
  • To contribute to evidence-based responses for people on the move

While managed and implemented by MMC regional teams through different 4Mi programmes, the 4Mi programme requires global coordination and oversight, quality assurance and strong technical support, as well as continuous work to further strengthen the programme and represent MMC’s data work at the global level. Additionally, MMC employs a range of mixed-methods research, combining quantitative and qualitative approaches which require coordination and technical support. The MMC global team also develops new (thematic or methodological) approaches for 4Mi and other data collection and research activities.

POSITION PROFILE

MMC is seeking a highly skilled and motivated individual to serve as the Global 4Mi Data Coordinator for MMC’s global team. The successful candidate will play a critical role in coordinating the 4Mi programme and all other data collection activities, providing technical support to the entire MMC network, driving MMC’s 4Mi and data strategy and methodological innovation, managing data collection projects, ensuring quality control, representing MMC externally, and supporting fundraising efforts.

JOB SUMMARY & TASKS

Management, coordination and technical support (approx. 70%):

  • Coordinate global data collection efforts, including overseeing the Global 4Mi initiative and further developing MMC’s 4Mi and data strategy
  • Lead work on risk management, in close coordination with DRC HQ
  • Updating and development of handbooks, and standard operating procedures (SOPs) and guidelines for data collection activities.
  • Facilitate regular monthly meetings with all 4Mi project managers globally to ensure coordination and alignment of activities and provide technical support to regional 4Mi teams.
  • Manage one Information Management Officer (IMO) to provide technical support for data-related tasks such as cleaning, coding, updating interactive platforms, and ensuring data integrity and security to the MMC network.
  • Drive methodological development and innovation, in both quantitative and qualitative research methodologies.
  • Manage standalone (non-4Mi) data collection projects, ensuring their successful implementation and adherence to timelines and quality standards.
  • Contribute to MMC's overall global management by assisting in strategy development, work planning, human resources management, and providing coverage as needed.

Quality Control, External Representation, and Fundraising (approx. 30%)

  • Conduct quality assurance reviews of publications by MMC regional hubs, ensuring accuracy, coherence, and adherence to MMC's standards, with a particular focus on the use of (4Mi) data.
  • Represent MMC externally by participating in conferences, workshops, and other events, and by engaging with stakeholders including governments, NGOs, academia, and the media.
  • Support fundraising efforts by contributing to proposal development, donor engagement, and resource mobilization activities.

QUALIFICATIONS, SKILLS & EXPERIENCE

  • Advanced degree in a relevant field such as statistics, social sciences, international relations, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 5-7 years of experience in data management, research, or a related field, preferably with experience in migration studies or humanitarian work.
  • Fluency in English is required; proficiency in other languages, especially Arabic, French, or Spanish, is desirable.
  • Demonstrated expertise in data collection methodologies, data analysis, and data visualization techniques, preferably with field experience
  • Strong project management skills, with the ability to coordinate multiple activities and stakeholders in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage effectively with diverse stakeholders and represent MMC professionally.
  • Ability to work independently, take initiative, and solve complex problems creatively.
  • Commitment to MMC's mission and values, including a dedication to promoting the rights and dignity of migrants and refugees.
