The Royal Hospital Donnybrook is a 178 bedded hospital that provides Post-Acute, Stroke Rehabilitation, Neurorehabilitation and General Rehabilitation services, Day Hospital services, Respite and Residential Care services to adults. Purpose of the post The value of the nursing contribution as a distinct profession must be safeguarded and articulated in the development of new services led by Advanced Nurse Practitioners, complementing rather than replacing current services delivered by doctors (NMBI 2017 p.9). The RANP will work with our community colleagues across the Integrated Care Programme for Older Persons, community neuro-rehab services, respite services, and other relevant community services. The RANP will network with the community to develop new and enhancing existing pathways for the frail older persons in community, building relationships to include those with community PHNs, community ANPs and with the Consultant led community ICPOP team. TheRANP Ortho-Geriatrics will supportanintegratedmodel of healthcare within The Royal Hospital Donnybrook. ThevaluesoftheRANP in Ortho-Geriatricsreflectsboththevalues ofthenursingprofessionand thoseofThe Royal hospital Donnybrook, maintaining anatmosphere oflove and compassion, guided byvaluesso that each patient istreatedwith dignityandrespect. The RANP in Ortho-Geriatrics demonstrates a high degree of knowledge, skill and experience that is applied within the nurse-patient/client relationship to achieve optimal outcomes through critical analysis, problem solving and accurate decision-making (NMBI, 2017). Central to this is the provision of quality care, a safe environment and processes for patients by the use of evidence based clinical guidelines that address patient expectations, promote wellness and evaluate care given. The post holders practice is based on developing a higher level of capability across the six domains of competences as defined by NMBI Advanced Practice (Nursing) Standards and Requirements (NMBI 2017). The domains are: Professional Values and Conduct Clinical-Decision Making Knowledge and Cognitive Competences Communication and Interpersonal Competences Management and Team Competences Leadership and Professional Scholarship Competences Reporting: The RANP is professionally accountable to the Director of Nursing, M. Patricia McAuliffe. The RANP Ortho-Geriatrics is clinically accountable to the supervising Consultant Physician in Geriatric Medicine Dr. Lisa Cogan Eligibility for post: Professional Qualifications and Experience The following criteria apply for registration as an Advanced Nurse Practitioner (ANP) with the Nursing and Midwifery board of Ireland (NMBI). The nurse//midwife must: Be registered in the division of the NMBIs Active Register for which the application is being made or in recognition of services which span several patient/client groups and/or registrations, provide evidence of validated competencies relevant to the context of practice Be educated to a Masters Degree (or higher) in Nursing or a Masters Degree which is relevant, or applicable, to the advanced field of practice. The Masters programme must be at Level 9 on the National Framework of Qualifications. Have a minimum of three years post registration experience, which will include five years experience in the chosen area of specialist practice and have completed 500 hours at supervised practice level. Have the competence to exercise higher levels of judgement, discretion and decision making in the clinical area above what is expected of the nurse/midwife working at primary practice level of the clinical nurse/midwife specialist. Demonstrate competencies relevant to context/practice Provide evidence of continuing professional development.
