Applications are invited for the post of Professor In Accountancy at J.E. Cairnes School of Business and Economics, University of Galway, Ireland.

This is an exciting opportunity for an exceptional academic to join the J.E. Cairnes School of Business and Economics as Professor In Accountancy. The School is one of three within the College of Business, Public Policy and Law, and is AACSB, AMBA and EFMD programme accredited, a member of PRME, and holds an Athena Swan Silver award for equality. Its mission is for the public good, with a strategic focus on research and impact, teaching and learning, external engagement, and internationalisation.
The Accountancy and Finance Discipline is nationally and internationally recognised for excellence in teaching and research. It offers three professionally accredited masters programmes: Master of Accounting; MSc in International Accounting and Analytics; and MSc in Corporate Finance (affiliated with the CFA Institute), as well as a dedicated Bachelor of Commerce (Accounting), and specialist streams in the Bachelor of Commerce. The Discipline also contributes to the School’s flagship MBA programme. ESG perspectives are embedded across curricula, preparing skilled, engaged, and civically minded graduates.
Candidates should have a PhD in accounting or accounting-related area and a publication record and research supervision experience commensurate with the grade of appointment and preferably in areas of strength of the Accountancy & Finance group. They should have significant teaching experience in accounting modules at undergraduate and post graduate levels. Preference will be given to applicants with an ability to teach across more than one accounting area (e.g. auditing, financial accounting, management accounting). Candidates should have a strong demonstrable leadership ability and an interest in leading and mentoring staff in the discipline. Applicants must have strong interpersonal and communication skills.
The successful candidate will be expected to take on leadership roles in the Discipline of Accountancy and Finance, contribute to the leadership and development of J.E. Cairnes School of Business and Economics; engage in scholarship and research; carry out relevant teaching and assessment at all levels; and contribute to the intellectual life of the University and the wider community.
