Medical Scientist
Beacon Hospital is hiring a Medical Scientist to assist in routine processing and support the laboratory service.

Overall Purpose
Assist in routine processing and coordinating the laboratory service in accordance with hospital mission and strategic plan.

Responsibilities

Assist in writing, maintaining, and enforcing procedures relating to all laboratory areas and testing equipment.

Implement operational procedures up to best practice standard to optimize resource use.

Implement a quality management program that is patient centred and measures performance and client satisfaction.

Perform scientific work to required accreditation standards.

Prioritize and coordinate concurrent testing during busy periods.

Cooperate with staff in adopting new ideas and technologies per hospital policy.

Participate in registration and custody of laboratory stocks.

Record and investigate non-conformances, complaints and defects, and report findings.

Facilitate participation with medical and scientific staff in research projects.

Participate in professional development through self-learning and formal courses.

Train laboratory team as required.

Promote open communication, punctuality, and dedication.

Communicate clearly and courteously to team and clients.

Ensure safety procedures comply with policy and act in accident prevention.

Implement and participate in quality management programs, internal and external QA.

Adhere to professional practice codes and quality assurance standards.

Develop laboratory information system as required.

Collect, interpret, and present data and information for department activity.

Review achievement of laboratory objectives.

Demonstrate flexibility as required by manager.

Any other duties as appropriate.

Qualifications

Membership or eligibility for membership of the Academy of Clinical Science and Laboratory Medicine (ACSLM)/CORU or equivalent.

Possess membership or be eligible for membership of the Academy of Clinical Science and Laboratory Medicine (ACSLM)/CORU or equivalent.
