Overview The appointee will play a lead role in the secure delivery and strategic development of Teagasc’s ICT technical services. The successful applicant will have strong technical ability, broad experience of ICT Infrastructure, specific experience and certifications in Microsoft 365 and Azure, project leading abilities and excellent customer and vendor relationship management skills. The role involves designing, leading projects and managing ICT operations and services across the organisation to provide an efficient and resilient service to Teagasc staff, students and external clients.
The appointee may be required to attend data centre sites in Dublin and Co. Kildare and other sites on a scheduled or ad-hoc basis.
Main Duties and Responsibilities Actively contribute as a member of the Infrastructure team to the delivery of infrastructure services and support within Teagasc and the ICT Department’s goals.
Manage and participate in systems administration of virtual servers and cloud services, including Windows, Linux, Active Directory, VMware, SAN, Commvault, Veeam, Fileshares, Monitoring, Microsoft 365, Azure AD, Teams, Azure Entra External ID, D365 CRM, Dataverse, PowerApps, networking equipment, and related technologies.
Provide expert knowledge to support and guide Managed Service partners on Teagasc policies, processes, procedures and standards.
Participate in Disaster Recovery and Business Continuity planning and exercises.
Manage security hardening of cloud systems and applications across the estate.
Assist with configuration and management of mobile devices via Microsoft Intune.
Procurement responsibilities for services, software and hardware, including drafting, reviewing and evaluating tenders.
Participation in Supplier and Contract Management, including review of supplier performance and risk registers.
Track and report hardware/IT assets lifecycle.
Lead planning, scheduling and controlling patching, OS upgrades and software upgrades; assist with rollout and maintenance of security tools with Security team.
Incident management and resolution; problem tracking and resolution (including attendance at problem management meetings).
Project manage own projects and oversee work delivered by Managed Service and external suppliers; integration of on-premise and cloud components as architectures evolve.
Contribute to maintenance and development of infrastructure documentation.
Develop strategic partnerships with managed service providers and vendors.
Research emerging technologies, architectures, service models and products.
Maintain personal performance and development through PMDS engagement and continuous self-development.
Assist Teagasc in meeting commitments of the Quality Customer Service Charter and Action Plan.
Co-operate with health, safety, welfare and legal obligations; comply with Safety Statement.
Other duties as assigned from time to time.

Qualifications & Skills Candidates ideally hold a Level 8 qualification (National Framework of Qualifications) in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related discipline. Level 7 or Level 6 qualification holders may be considered and may be required to complete a Level 8 qualification within three years.
At least 2 years’ experience in an Enterprise ICT environment as a Systems Administrator with emphasis on Microsoft cloud services; includes solution design, implementation, maintenance, and cost management.
3–5 years’ experience with Azure, Office 365, Identity and Access Management related to Azure, Exchange Online, Teams, Active Directory (DHCP/DNS), Commvault, VMware.
Microsoft Certifications in relevant Azure and Office 365 technologies.
Skills/Knowledge Systems and/or Networking Administration; Vendor Management with Managed Service Providers.
Effective communication, influencing and negotiation skills; strong customer service orientation.
Procurement and supplier management; ICT project management experience.
Basic ITIL Service Management knowledge; relevant certifications (e.g., Microsoft, CCNA/CCNP, ITIL).
Experience with cloud technologies (e.g., Azure; AWS experience desirable).
Networking/Firewall/Web filter knowledge and certifications; Windows OS administration and security hardening.
Mobile device management (InTune or similar).
PRINCE2 Project Management certification; public sector procurement experience.
Experience with ticketing systems and working in a larger ICT team including Service Delivery, Networking, Applications, Security, and Research Innovation.
Other Candidates must satisfy legal requirements to drive unaccompanied on Irish public roads during employment.
