The Role The Legal function provides the organisation with the necessary legal expertise and support required by the business to meet its day-to-day business needs and legal and regulatory obligations. This includes advising the business in specialised matters, managing litigation matters, reviewing and providing input to legal documentation including policies and contracts, and advising on regulatory matters. The Legal Asset & Operations Team provides in-house legal advice primarily to the asset and operational functions of the business, including Asset Management, Infrastructure Delivery, Asset & Customer Operations, as well as advising on dispute resolution. The team provides a range of specialist legal advice in areas including planning and environmental, property, projects, and developer services. The team advises on dispute avoidance across the company including litigation, arbitration, mediation, conciliation or any other alternative dispute resolution, and advises on dispute avoidance and challenging proofing of business processes. They collaborate with the Legal Commercial and Supply Chain team to ensure knowledge sharing and excellence in the delivery of full legal services across Uisce Éireann.
Reporting to the Property & CDS Legal Manager in Uisce Éireann, the CDS Project Solicitor is primarily responsible for the provision of legal advice to the CDS team. The role holder takes primary responsibility for advising in relation to all CDS day to day and strategic activities regarding contract activity including all negotiation and dispute resolution activities for the CDS team within Uisce Éireann, reviews and corrects certain agreements prepared by the business including management of Legal Support Officer, legal consultants and/or interns as applicable to ensure administrative support is provided to the wider CDS and Legal teams, including overseeing the management of legal payments and correspondence with external parties.
Main Duties and Responsibilities Responsible for the CDS Legal team within Uisce Éireann.
Draft and/or review CDS contracts prepared by the business, to ensure accuracy and that templates are utilised correctly, and that such contracts are legally valid and ready for execution.
Responsible for the supervision of general administrative support within the Legal teams, to ensure adequate administrative support is provided to the CDS and Legal teams.
Ensure the optimum approach is taken to systemising CDS contracting and, where appropriate, ensure that the system in operation is operated within the chosen software environment (e.g., LCMS, D365 or any specific contract review or AI analysis software).
Maintain adequate legal registers within CDS, and structure data to enable a macro view of up-to-date CDS contracting status.
Oversee the maintenance of the invoice register and record-keeping in respect of all legal invoices, including liaison with external law firms, Finance and relevant parts of the business, ensuring invoices are processed and paid in a timely manner.
Run and prepare agendas for miscellaneous meetings with all support staff and/or CDS teams to achieve organisational outcomes.
Ensure that all relevant files and documents are created and stored accurately and clearly.
Provide support to the Chief Legal Officer, Asset & Operations Senior Manager, and Property & CDS Legal Manager as required.
Resolve queries and requests from CDS on a day-to-day basis.
Support other legal team solicitors in day-to-day legal activities including preparation of court submissions and documents as appropriate.
Act as a super-user for the CDS area for the Legal Case Management System and any other software applications required to organise and process the CDS workload, developing and managing efficient document and correspondence retention and filing procedures.
Prioritise communications and coordinate with the Dispute Resolution Legal Manager to achieve organisational objectives.
Challenge and influence poor customer service and practice and oversee change management initiatives.
Develop a comprehensive understanding of all relevant legal contracts, policies and protocols, together with ongoing business issues related to CDS and the organisation's strategic objectives.
Address poor practice and encourage cooperation and open discussion to achieve common goals.
Organise sign-off of contracts by the Chief Legal Officer and/or the Asset & Operations Legal Senior Manager.
General Duties and Responsibilities Collaborate with key internal stakeholders across Uisce Éireann.
Promote and deliver health and safety commitments across Uisce Éireann and its supply chain, reinforcing positive behaviours and delivering health and safety objectives to the highest industry standards.
Support the delivery of the Uisce Éireann Transformation Programme and, as required, the DHLGH “Housing for All” programme, driving results required within the Directorate and supporting organisation-wide objectives.
Conduct duties in accordance with Uisce Éireann’s Information Security policies, standards, processes and controls to protect information and delivery of critical services, in line with the NIS Directive and other cybersecurity regulations.
Other duties as required.
Knowledge, Skills and Experience Relevant third level qualification and professional qualification is desirable.
A minimum of 7 years’ experience in the legal, water or utility industries is required.
Demonstrated people management ability, proactive development, motivation and engagement of staff.
Preferred but not essential experience in day-to-day operational management of direct reports.
Demonstrated experience influencing an environment of open, honest communication while upholding high ethical standards.
Strong analytical skills and ability to identify and analyse problems and potential improvements, and propose and implement solutions.
Demonstrated adaptability and the ability to change focus and direction in line with business strategy and requirements.
Proven track record of facilitating continuous improvement initiatives within a team.
Experience managing a team, with strong people, change management and conflict resolution skills.
Proactively identifying new areas of improvement and using newly gained knowledge and skill on the job.
