This position is for a Data Scientist - Statistician who is excited to transform data into actionable insights and impactful solutions which drive business results. The role requires significant technical expertise in the fields of computer programming, applied statistics and data manipulation; and relies on increasing business knowledge. While some review by a manager is expected, this individual will take initiative in identifying, planning, and executing statistical analysis and modeling to support business priorities.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities
- Plan data collection methods for specific projects, develop sampling techniques, and determine the types and sizes of sample groups to be used.
- Develop, analyze, and evaluate proposed modeling with regards to experimental design (DoE) and supporting statistical analysis (residuals, variance, etc.)
- Analyze and interpret statistical data to identify significant differences in relationships among sources of information, as well as any factors that could deliver actionable business value.
- Determine whether statistical methods are appropriate, based on user needs or business questions of interest including but not limited to univariate/multivariate analysis, generalized linear models, time-series modeling, and Bayesian approaches.
- Integrate large volume of data from different sources (including DB2, SQL Server, Web API and Teradata) to create data assets for ad-hoc analyses and larger studies.
- Apply validation, aggregation, and reconciliation techniques to create rich modeling-ready data framework.
- Construct and tune predictive models to explain and understand observed events, forecast expected behavior, or identify risk through scoring or clustering.
- Efficiently interpret results and communicate findings and potential value to influence manager and leadership decision making.
- Provide support, training and/or mentorship to lower-level Data Science peers.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Job Specifications
- Master’s degree in quantitative field is required, Ph.D. is preferred.
- 5+ years professional experience or equivalent relevant work experience preferred.
- Programming: Experience in programming languages, such as Python and R, to develop programs for manipulating large and complex datasets, data analysis, and implementing algorithms.
- Statistics & Statistical modeling: Expertise using statistical inference and regression. Solid understanding of machine learning algorithms, feature selection, and extraction. Conducts end-to-end tasks from problem synthesis to model deployment.
- Data Visualization: Transforming data sets, quantitative and qualitative analysis into compelling visuals by creating and editing visual content including maps, charts, and graphs.
- Data Extraction, Transformation, and Loading: Preferred skills include: Expertise in writing complex SQL queries that join multiple tables/databases. Independently explore databases/tables to identify best data sources to solve business problems developing complex SQL queries with little guidance.
- Core business capabilities: Demonstrated communication skills, experience in financial services, leadership experience working with senior management and executive leadership, and attention to detail while effectively and independently prioritizing work and managing multiple projects simultaneously.
- Leadership Capabilities: Viewed as a promoter of change management and leads proof of concept work and prototyping when necessary.
- Preferred characteristics: Entrepreneurial self-starter, a thorough, results-oriented problem-solver, and effectively works as part of a diverse team.
