Huawei Ireland Research Centre is seeking a Research Engineer on Cloud Operations to drive efficiency and cost optimization of global cloud infrastructure, and drive business decisions through modeling, simulation, and data analytics.

In this role, you will work closely with a group of domain experts and applied scientists, software development teams, and business and finance teams, to deliver solutions for maximizing the value from Huawei’s global cloud infrastructure. This role will be highly cross-disciplinary among project management, engineering, and operations research, providing a unique opportunity for future careers as either technical project/program manager, applied scientist, or software engineer.

Responsibilities

- Work with business experts and applied scientists to build complex models to simulate/model demand change, capacity growth, and asset lifetime value in public cloud infrastructure to drive critical business decisions with big commercial impact.
- Prototype models to quantify and demonstrate the impact of input changes; seek optimal results through optimization techniques and simulations.
- Work closely with finance and business teams to get real-world data and feedback to validate models and algorithms.
- Work closely with software development teams to convert prototyping to web-based digital tools for internal users.
- Track project progress, identify risks, and communicate with stakeholders.

Requirements

- Education background (MSc or above) in Applied Mathematics, Statistics, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Industrial Engineering, or Operations Management.
- Strong coding skills (e.g. Python, R).
- Excellent in problem solving.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Strong ownership with a track record of navigating through ambiguity and delivering results.
- Project management and stakeholder management.

Preferred Qualifications

- Working knowledge on optimization techniques (e.g., convex optimization, linear optimization, etc.).
- Familiar with cloud and/or data center infrastructure.
- Any work experiences in one of the following domains: (1) converting complex real-world problems into mathematical models through modeling techniques; (2) causal inference based on counterfactuals/interventions; (3) supply chain simulation or other simulations with commercial or open-source simulation tools.
- Certification on project management (such as PMP, but not a requirement).
- Fluent in Mandarin.
