Process Engineer - Water

Why Arup?

Process engineering is at the heart of many of the solutions needed to satisfy a growing society seeking a sustainable future, where the challenges of climate change are being tackled through innovation, collaboration and the influence of governments. Our involvement in the circular economy, the progression towards a net-zero carbon future and the creation of resilient thinking in a changing climate shines a spotlight on the power of process engineering.

The Opportunity

The water sector in Europe and further afield is undergoing a massive transformation to respond to the challenges of climate change, population growth and pressures on the environment. This challenge impacts on water utilities and on other sectors that use water, either directly or indirectly. Water is a “blue thread” that will shape our ability to deliver on the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals.

We are looking for candidates with experience of water process engineering consultancy and design on multi-disciplinary projects within the water sector and/or industrial sector. This role will sit within our water team in Ireland (Dublin and Cork), supporting local and international clients in managing water and water risk and working with multi-disciplinary teams across the globe.

Is this role right for you?

To be successful, you are likely to have provided water process consultancy to water and/or non-water clients. You will have also developed concept designs and studies, and would have experience of working in or directing process engineering teams to ensure production of deliverables to established timelines and within budget. You will co-ordinate the work of others and liaise with engineers of other disciplines, imparting your knowledge and experiences.

You may be involved in highly regulated sectors, working within a gated design and project delivery process. You could be involved in the development of process data sheets: pressure relief valves, control valves, pumps, etc., and the designing of systems.

You will also be involved in the report writing and the development of fee proposals, feasibility studies of plant operating and capital costs. We would expect you to have a practical understanding of how your designs will be implemented, and digital approaches to solve our problems including the relevant current analysis and design software.

We are seeking the following skills and experience:

- A relevant degree and Chartered Engineer Status.
- Wastewater & clean water treatment systems design.
- Design of industrial water systems.
- Knowledge of water and wastewater analysis along with awareness of Europe water-related regulatory frameworks.
- Experience of process consultancy work, advising on due diligence, water risk and water strategies and clearly presenting technical findings through meetings, presentations and reports.
- Experience of managing and developing internal and external clients.
- Experience of generating opportunities, creating winning bids and delivering projects.

What to expect at Arup:

- A multicultural and informal working environment where you can develop professionally by being part of a team who enjoy what they do.
- Opportunities for short or long assignments at Arup’s offices and projects anywhere in the world.
- Employees are eligible for the Global Profit Share scheme, which is dependent on the firm’s financial performance.
- Competitive performance-based salary growth.
- A strong corporate culture committed to its values: quality of work, holistic approach, humane organization, straight and honourable dealings, social usefulness and reasonable prosperity.
- Continuous training and professional development that will allow you to adapt to the growing needs of our clients as we embrace digital transformation.

Join us in shaping a better world.

Our goal is to shape a better world, finding solutions for some of the world’s most complex problems. From climate action to social value, we consider the most expansive impacts of our work. Our drive to build a more sustainable, resilient and equitable future shapes our culture and has made us leaders in sustainable development. The successful candidate will join our multi-disciplinary design teams focusing on technical excellence and innovative solutions that create a better future for people, places, and the planet.

At Arup, you’ll be a welcomed member of the team with opportunities to participate in social, cultural and educational events with the local community (e.g. as a STEM ambassador) or with your colleagues by joining staff networks such as those for women, culture or the LGBTQ+ community.
