Munster Technological University (MTU) has a well-earned reputation for being student centric our students matter and every student counts. Attached to the Office of the Vice President for Academic Affairs & Registrar, Student Affairs is made up of professionals dedicated to supporting the academic and personal development of individuals attending MTU and thus enhancing the student experience. MTU is seeking to recruit an individual for the role of Senior Occupational Therapist within the Student Affairs team. This exciting role will place the successful applicant working alongside their colleagues in the Student Counselling, Access and Medical Services across all campuses of MTU, in both Cork and Kerry. The Senior Occupational Therapist will report into the Head of Student Counselling at MTU Cork and the role will focus specifically on supporting the mental health needs of our students, enabling them to succeed both academically and personally. The successful candidate will report to the Head of Student Counselling in MTU Cork but will engage heavily with colleagues in the Counselling, Access and Medical Services across both Cork and Kerry. This exciting role will see the Senior Occupational Therapist based on the Bishopstown campus two days per week and the Tralee campus one day per week. Duties and Responsibilities of the role: To establish occupational therapy supports (mental health specific) within MTU. To deliver high quality needs assessments and risk assessments for students who are referred by assigned MTU departments/services (Student Counselling, Access & Medical Services), including delivering appropriate recommendations for relevant support. To work with individual students and groups to identify appropriate personal and academic strategies to enable them to participate in their study activities, e.g. supports for neurodivergent students. To appropriately refer students for supports services, resources and funding offered by MTU, namely counselling, access, exams, assistive technology, student assistance fund. To respond to post needs assessment queries as appropriate in a timescale. To assist in the delivery and development of pre-entry, entry and post entry initiatives where required e.g. orientations. To keep up to date with developments in disability support and enabling technology and strategies. To manage a caseload of students who have been referred for Occupational Therapy support. To operate within the scope of the Association of Occupational Therapists Ireland (AOTI) or other relevant body and in accordance with the established policies and procedures within MTU. To design and deliver workshops, groups, online resources etc. for students to assist them in developing skills required to succeed in college. To hold comprehensive knowledge of mental health difficulties and disabilities and their effects in education. To have knowledge of the range of reasonable accommodations available and the appropriate use of such accommodations, as well as relevant legislation and its implementation. To support the university, within the boundaries of the role, to meet the requirements for mental health promotion and intervention as outlined in the HEA National Student Mental Health & Suicide Prevention Framework (2020). To engage in ongoing clinical supervision in accordance with ethical practice. The successful candidate will have minimum academic qualifications and experience as follows: Essential A primary degree and/or recognised validated qualification in Occupational Therapy at a similar level. Registration with CORU, the Health and Social Care Professionals Council. 3 years satisfactory post qualification experience. Satisfactory experience in mental health occupational therapy practice, including mental health intervention and experience of mental health crises management. Competency in IT applications - proficiency with Microsoft Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, SharePoint, OneDrive and Excel, as well as excellent written and verbal communication skills. Excellent and proven organisational skills with a high attention to detail in managing diverse and demanding workload. Ability to work effectively with and collaborate with key stakeholders. The willingness to work with people from a wide range of backgrounds, agencies, and sectors. Desirable Knowledge and experience of dealing with issues faced by individuals who are underrepresented in higher education in accessing third level education. A working knowledge of mental health and disability supports in higher education. Terms of the Appointment: Salary Range for 3 days week €40,000 to €41,466.60 per annum depending on qualifications and experience. (Actual salary range for 5 days per week would be €66,667.00 to €69,110 per annum) 12 month fixed-term contract 3 days per week Annual leave 29 days pa pro-rata entitlement Additional Information: This position will involve travel between campuses in Cork and Kerry.
