About The Role We are seeking an experienced Senior Commercial Contract Specialist to join our team, focusing on high-value public sector contracts (typically >£5m). Reporting to the Public Sector Director, this role supports our mission to accelerate the UK’s net-zero transition through strategic Local Authority partnerships. The successful candidate will be part of the Commercial team securing high-value, long-term complex concession contracts with Local Authorities across the UK. You’ll work with the legal team to address commercial matters as part of the contract completion process and bring a strong understanding of the commercial and public-sector procurement elements of major concession contracts. Responsibilities Support the Business Development Managers to progress post-award contract discussions with LA clients Collaborate with the legal team during contract completion Guide the pre-award team on complex commercial terms, including change of control, remediation rights, payment processes, and termination & compensation clauses Assess liability, indemnity, and insurance provisions for long-term concession projects Provide commercial context and rationale to support the legal team’s contract analysis Stakeholder Management Build relationships at multiple levels within Local Authorities and with their legal teams Manage client expectations regarding contract preparation and anticipated signature timeframes Educate clients on the commercial realities of infrastructure delivery Manage escalations to senior stakeholders as required Coordinate with internal teams to ensure alignment Influence and negotiate with internal stakeholders to reach commercial agreement Success Measures Achieve contract signatures within agreed timescales post-award Maintain contract pipeline momentum with minimal delays attributable to the commercial function Secure commercial terms aligned with risk appetite and strategic objectives Negotiate risk allocations that protect against unreasonable liability while remaining competitive Support bid processes leading to contract awards and signatures that meet business targets Process Management Conduct thorough handovers post-signature to Operations for deployment of projects, using CRM, Microsoft Office and AI tools Brief account management teams on key contract obligations post-signature Maintain detailed records of contract discussions and decisions Develop standardized commercial approaches to reduce completion cycle times Support contract management best practices and provide actionable commercial guidance to enable legal efficiency About You We seek a candidate who shares our commitment to cutting carbon emissions and delivering cleaner air. You should enjoy solving complex commercial challenges and have the following attributes and skills: Essential Experience Public sector procurement: understanding of procurement processes, regulations, buying frameworks and decision-making structures Commercial contract management: minimum 3 years of complex contract management, preferably with contract values >£5m Stakeholder management: ability to build relationships with senior public sector stakeholders Contract law understanding: knowledge of liability, indemnity, termination, and change control; ability to support legal analysis Project management: ability to manage multiple concurrent contract discussions Desirable Qualifications / Experience EV sector knowledge Experience in infrastructure, utilities, telecoms, construction, or concession sectors Experience with Local Authority procurement and understanding long-term public concession contracts Experience reviewing commercial contracts and identifying risks Familiarity with government funding schemes and public procurement processes Experience leading complex, multi-stakeholder contract discussions and closing high-value deals Skills Core Competencies Commercial acumen: balance risk and opportunity while supporting wider contract analysis Attention to detail: interpret and translate legal terms into business decisions Communication: clear written and verbal communication of complex concepts Collaborative: work with legal, finance, and business development Soft Skills Diplomacy: manage difficult conversations and find mutually acceptable solutions Resilience: comfortable with long contract cycles and client expectations Integrity: ethical and compliant, with strong responsibility and ownership Benefits Competitive salary and bonus scheme 25 days’ annual leave plus 8 UK bank holidays; option to buy up to 5 additional days Wellbeing and health benefits including insurance options Pension contribution matched up to 10% Car and cycle-to-work schemes Learning platform access for career development Volunteer Time Off (VTO) and employee discounts Enhanced parental leave policies Location The role is hybrid: 3 days in the office (Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday) with our office in Southwark.
